Job description

Behavior Intervention Assistant

Hours are 07:55 am - 02:25 pm, Monday through Friday. Under the immediate supervision of the school site principal and with oversight from the Behavior Specialist and/or designee, the Behavior Intervention Assistant works with students with behavioral, emotional, and/or special needs in a variety of settings, including general and special education classrooms and unstructured times. This position is posted inhouse. Current classified employees have priority.

To be considered for an interview please have all documents included: A completed Edjoin Application A current resume 2 Letters of Reference Current Education/Qualifications High School Diploma, AA Degree or 40 units of college level coursework; two years or more experience working with school aged children with behavior/emotional needs in an educational or organized setting. College level coursework in child development, special education, or student behavior preferred. Experience in using ABA (applied behavior analysis) teaching methodologies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to operate standard office/classroom equipment. Ability to move quickly or run short distances to maintain the safety of students who may elope. Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for up to 60 minutes at a time. Ability to navigate indoor and outdoor environments, including uneven terrain, playgrounds, and stairs, in various weather conditions. Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching (overhead and horizontally) to interact with students at their level. Sufficient vision to monitor student safety and read instructional materials; clear hearing and speech to communicate effectively in noisy classroom or playground environments. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds (e.g., adaptive equipment or students) independently; ability to move over 50 pounds with assistance. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud Potential exposure to bodily fluids (requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment) and the risk of physical aggression or "acting out" behaviors from students. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, including classrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during off-site field trips. High volume of social interaction with students and faculty, requiring constant mental alertness and emotional resilience, while providing intervention for students with diverse behavioral profiles, including physical aggression, verbal outbursts, and emotional dysregulation.
