Job description

Job Summary:

The Behavior Technician is primarily responsible for working one-on-one with a child with autism, or similar disabilities, inside the child's home or clinic. The ability to follow directions and maintain a professional demeanor at all times is critical for this position. During the first 4 weeks, staff are expected to complete all trainings, complete the competency assessment, and take the RBT exam. Following the training period, staff will be expected to bill 28 hours within a 40-hour work week. This may be a combination of clinic and in home sessions. Staff will also be expected to complete other indirect work such as entering data, updating paperwork, cleaning/organizing, and attending supervisions and trainings.

At this level, the BT may or may not have 1 year or less of experience in ABA. The BT is required to take and pass the RBT exam upon completion of training. The BT is a paraprofessional who practices under the close, ongoing supervision of an LBA or LABA. The BT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of ABA services. Direct implementation of services includes skill acquisition programs and following behavior support plans as created by the LBA or LABA. Common behaviors may include elopement, aggression, property disruption or destruction, self-injury, tantrums, etc. The BT does not design interventions or assessment plans. It is the responsibility of the LBA to determine which tasks a BT may perform as a function of his/her/their training, experience, and competence. The LBA or LABA supervising the BT is responsible for the work performed by the BT on the cases they are overseeing.
