Description:
The Meriden Public School District seeks applicants for a Behavior Technician for the STARS Program.
Program Description:
Self-contained special education program
Support students from K-12 who have autism and engage in challenging behaviors
Areas of instruction include: functional life skills, academics, social/emotional behaviors, independent living, and vocational skills
Students participate in adapted PE, art, music, and/or other appropriate electives
Social skills and positive peer interactions are supported through general education peer courses and student internships
Heavy focus on transition planning, appropriate behavior, job skills, self-advocacy, and independence
Require adult support throughout the school day
Accompanying students during travel to or from school during the school day may be required
Qualifications:
The Behavior Technician should be able to work with students with behavioral challenges. Experience working with children with Autism is preferred. Previous training in physical management and de-escalation is preferred. Associate's degree or higher degree preferred.
