nAbout This Position
nThe Behavior Technician (“BT”) position will be responsible for providing positive, compassionate, supportive services to people with complex behavioral, developmental, and/or mental health needs in an individual or group home setting, in a 1:1 or 2:1 staffing ratio, determined by the individual’s care plan. The individuals served may be minors (under 18 years of age) or adults.
nWe currently have one afternoon rotation with 60 hours scheduled every two weeks.
nSupervisory Responsibilities
nThis position does not manage people but may be responsible for leading various tasks or activities while supporting individuals served by the organization.
nJob Duties
nnnFollow the person's care plan and ensure all applicable documentation related to them is completed timely and accurately, such as shift notes or medication administration reports
n
nnCollect accurate data to drive positive behaviors as part of the person's care plan
n
nnProvide problem-solving assistance and build confidence in person served by assisting with activities such as meal planning, grocery shopping, housekeeping duties, cooking, organizational skills, financial management, and self-care
n
nnAdvocate for, support, and empower individuals served by providing general skill training where the skill will be used
n
nnSupport development of decision-making skills and informed choices in all aspects of daily living, including selection of service providers, goals, location, home decor, leisure activities, roommates, and/or personal possessions
n
nnSupport individuals’ desires to be involved in their community by transporting them to their intended destinations via company vehicle
n
nnCoach individuals served through escalations in behavior or mood, or through emergency situations
n
nnMaintain positive working relationships with teammates, Designated Coordinator, other MN Care Services staff, people served, as well as their responsible party and/or care team
n
nnAdhere to the Vulnerable Adult and Child Abuse and Neglect Policies and Regulations, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy policies and maintain confidentiality of all information pertaining to people served, their families, and MN Care Services employees
n
nnOther cross-functional duties in or out of position scope, as necessary

n nRequired Skills and/or Abilities
nnnEducation & Experience:
n
nnHigh school diploma/GED plus 3+ years of progressive experience in behavioral, residential, or mental health settings
n
n nCore Requirements
nnnValid driver’s license with a clean driving record
n
nnAbility to pass MN DHS background study with fingerprinting
n
nnAbility to complete and demonstrate competency in required 245D training
n
n nHighly Preferred
nnnExperience in a 245D or HCBS setting
n
nnHands-on experience implementing behavior support plans (BSPs/BIPs)
n
nnExperience with structured data collection and documentation
n
nnFamiliarity with person-centered and trauma-informed approaches
n
n nProfessional Skills & Expectations
nnnDemonstrated ability to consistently implement behavior support plans with fidelity under supervision
n
nnStrong understanding of behavioral principles (e.g., function of behavior, reinforcement strategies)
n
nnProven de-escalation and crisis intervention skills , including appropriate use of trained physical interventions when necessary
n
nnHigh-level documentation skills : accurate, objective, and timely behavioral data and service notes
n
nnAbility to work independently while maintaining alignment with team direction and supervisory guidance
n
nnStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional boundaries
n
nnExcellent organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
n
nnCommitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and person-centered care
n
nnProficient with basic technology (EHR systems, email, Microsoft Office)
n
n nPhysical, Behavioral, and Safety-Related Requirements
nnnTolerance for exposure to verbal aggression, loud noise, or unpredictable behavior from individuals
n
nnFrequent standing, walking, and moving throughout the day, including following individuals during transitions or community outings
n
nnAbility to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally (e.g. assisting with mobility, moving equipment, or intervening in crisis situations)
n
nnFrequent bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and crouching (e.g. assisting individuals with activities of daily living, working at their level)
n
nnAbility to react quickly and move safely during crisis situations or behavioral escalations
n
nnManual dexterity for creating data, using paper or electronic documentation systems, and manipulating small objects or adaptive equipment
n
nnAbility to implement physical intervention or restraint procedures (if trained and required by the program), including safely holding positions or moving to protect oneself and others
n
nnCapability to maintain prolonged physical positions during crisis support (Standing, kneeling, or blocking)
n
nnAwareness and control of body positioning and space to prevent injury to oneself or others during challenging behaviors
n
nnSufficient vision and hearing to observe clients and respond to cues, behaviors, or environmental risks
n
n nPay and Benefits
nnnOnboarding and In-Person Training Rate: $18.00 per hour
n
nnStipend paid for completion of required virtual training before providing support
n
nnDirect support / in-ratio Rate: $25.00 per hour based on program ; position is eligible for overtime
n
nnPaid Time Off for every hour worked
