Job description

Behavioral Assistant

The Behavioral Assistant provides assistance to students with behavioral challenges on the autism spectrum, emotional/behavioral disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and related developmental disabilities, under the direction of a licensed teacher.

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.

Supports the implementation of the behavior plans for students

Participates in on-going training in highly specialized strategies and interventions for implementing individualized behavior plans under the direction of staff

Uses training to take appropriate actions to deal with recurring behavioral situations with the supervision of the teacher

Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.

High School Diploma or GED supplemented by course work in child development or a related field

Experience working with students with behavioral challenges on the autism spectrum, emotional/behavioral disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and/or other developmental disabilities

Knowledge, abilities, and skills to effectively manage the behaviors of children with behavioral and learning challenges

Ability to collect, record, and use behavioral and instructional data

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Work requires frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time; exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and negligible amounts of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Months/Days/Hours: 10 months/ 191 days/ 7 hours

Salary Level: Universa/Scale B.1 - Level 4

Salary Range: $37.18
