Job description
Behavioral Health Clinician
About the Role
Are you a licensed clinician who's passionate about supporting adults in recovery from substance use disorders? Thundermist Health Center is looking for a Behavioral Health Clinician to join our Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) / Office Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) team. You'll carry a caseload of adults ages 18 and older who are receiving or seeking MAT services - conducting screenings, developing treatment plans, providing substance abuse counseling, and partnering closely with primary care physicians and Suboxone-waivered providers. Your patients may include moderate to high-risk adults with complex chronic conditions, poly-substance use disorders, and pregnant individuals. If you're comfortable working with this population and motivated by Thundermist's mission to deliver compassionate, community-based care, this is the role for you.
What You'll Do
Clinical Assessment & Treatment
Conduct patient screenings using standardized tools and perform behavioral health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning
Formulate individualized treatment plans based on assessments and provide substance abuse counseling and brief treatments
Provide clinical and consultative treatment services that are strength-based and client-centered
Conduct brief interventions or refer to Thundermist's Integrated Behavioral Health department or community treatment providers as appropriate
Respond to crises, assess need, formulate disposition, and implement appropriate care
Collaboration & Coordination Work in close partnership with primary care physicians, Suboxone-waivered providers, and the MAT/OBAT team
Coordinate with clinical providers, social service providers, and care coordinators to support whole-person care
Participate in professional activities including continuing education, clinical conferences, and community group engagement
Documentation & Compliance Document all aspects of screening, diagnosis, treatment, and referral in the EHR (eClinicalWorks)
Complete all required documentation for treatment planning, billing, and licensure within required timeframes
Ensure patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations
What We're Looking For
You're a clinician who meets patients where they are - without judgment, with skill, and with genuine investment in their recovery. You're comfortable navigating complex presentations, collaborating with medical providers, and working in a fast-paced primary care environment. You bring clinical rigor and human warmth in equal measure. Master's degree (MA, MFT, or MSW) required
Eligible for Rhode Island state licensure: LICSW, LMFT, or LMHC
Knowledge and ability to independently carry out behavioral health screening, diagnosis, assessment, treatment planning, and treatment or referral
Strong knowledge of medical terminology and Medication Assisted Treatment
Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional demeanor
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, and internal and external staff
A genuine commitment to patient-centered, high-quality care for diverse and underserved populations, with an authentic passion for health equity and community health
Preferred: Previous experience in a primary care setting, ideally in an FQHC
Experience treating patients diagnosed with substance use disorders or addictions
Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish
