Job description

Bilingual Psychotherapist

RaisingHealth Partners (formerly known as Academy of Medical & Public Health Services (AMPHS)) is a Brooklyn-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers to accessing healthcare for immigrants and other under-served communities in NYC. Every year, we proudly serve and connect more than 20,000 New Yorkers to healthcare systems. Our programs equip immigrant populations with the knowledge to help them navigate the complexities of living in a new city and transition into post-secondary education and/or employment opportunities. At the same time, we also educate community members on their immigrant rights, healthy living, nutrition and health access, and create space for civic engagement.

RaisingHealth is seeking a Bilingual Psychotherapist to provide mental health counseling services to Chinese communities in Sunset Park, Brooklyn as an expansion of its current mental health counseling program. Raising Health currently provides culturally-appropriate social service counseling, social support, care coordination and case management, working closely with clinical staff to address health risk factors and other social determinants of health, including, but not exclusive to domestic violence and child abuse, housing, living conditions, etc. The social work team offers ongoing follow-up, basic motivational interviewing, and goal-setting with community members and their families, especially those with complex conditions, while monitoring and evaluating clients' progress and modifying treatment plans accordingly.

The mental health therapist will work closely with the RaisingHealth social work and community health worker team to complement their work and offer needed psychotherapy services to community members screened as at-risk. He or she will be working with the vulnerable immigrant populations of Sunset Park – many who have been victims of domestic abuse, violence, trafficking, and family separation – to address acute mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, lifestyle issues, trauma, grief, coping, relationship issues, and substance use.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develop an initial assessment and a prospective Treatment Plan for each new client at intake.

Engage community members in weekly (or as needed) individual and/or group sessions based on the utilization of Evidence Based practice interventions and the Treatment Plan.

Document progress toward goals and ensure fidelity in weekly Progress Notes documenting contact and outcomes.

Work with social work and community health worker team to facilitate referrals for community members as needed to community-based, culturally-linguistically-competent agencies for needed social services.

Meet regularly with Supervisor to discuss concerns and carry out plans for each client.

Attend and participate in all appropriate clinical case conferences, training sessions, and staff meetings.

Alert appropriate members of the Executive Management team of emergencies, which jeopardize the client's stability within the community or family so that available resources may be used to meet immediate needs on an ongoing basis.

Manage a regularly assigned caseload of community members at AMPHS open hours and record care management information in EMR system no later than 24 hours after contact.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

LCSW, LMHC, LMFT with C&A, PhD (Psychologist), or PsyD (psychologist) required.

1-4 years of practical psychotherapy experience working with English and Chinese-speaking, low-income immigrant populations.

Oral and written fluency in Chinese (Mandarin preferred) and English required.

Experience and training working with children and adolescents required.

Experience working in a multicultural setting.

Basic computer skills and knowledge in Microsoft software.

Good communication and listening skills.

Ability and willingness to provide emotional support, encouragement and motivation to patients.

This role requires in-office presence and is not remote.
