HUMMINGBIRD INDIGENOUS FAMILY SERVICES MISSION AND VISION
Healthy Indigenous babies being born into healthy Indigenous families being supported by healthy Indigenous communities. At Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services, we believe that attachment and culture are the foundations of healthy communities and that through rematriation (Returning the Sacred to the Mother), we can heal historical trauma.
Through culturally relevant support during the perinatal period, we reduce the personal, cultural, and systemic barriers that disproportionately affect Indigenous parents while strengthening the bond between parents and connections to the community.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Birth Center Project Manager will oversee and coordinate all aspects of the, renovation, and readiness of Hummingbird’s birth center. This role serves as the central point of coordination between leadership, contractors, architects, inspectors, funders, and community stakeholders. The Birth Center Project Manager ensures the project is completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with Hummingbird’s values, regulatory requirements, and vision for culturally safe birthing care.
This position is ideal for someone highly organized, relationship-oriented, and experienced in capital projects, facilities coordination, or construction project support—particularly within nonprofit, healthcare, or community-based settings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Project Planning & Coordination
Develop and maintain detailed project timelines, work plans, and milestones for
property purchase and renovation phases
Coordinate tasks across vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders
Track deliverables, dependencies, and risks; proactively address delays or challenges
Prepare regular project updates and reports for leadership and funders
Creation of Community Advisory Council consisting of 6-10 members, and responsible for the scheduling and facilitation of meetings.
Schedule weekly Owner Architect Contractor meetings
Help develop capital budget and capital improvement plan
Coordinate with architects, designers, contractors, and subcontractors
Ensure requirements for WA State prevailing wage is compliant
Monitor renovation progress to ensure alignment with approved plans, budgets, and timelines
Support culturally appropriate design elements reflective of Indigenous values and birthing practices
Schedule site visits, inspections, and walkthroughs; document outcomes and follow-ups
Budget & Financial Tracking
Track project expenditures against approved budgets
Process invoices, contracts, and change orders in collaboration with finance staff
Assist with cost projections, funding drawdowns, and financial reporting
Compliance & Readiness
Support compliance with building codes, health and safety regulations, and licensing requirements for a birth center
Coordinate documentation needed for occupancy, inspections, and operational readiness
Assist with transition planning from construction completion to program launch
Relationship & Communication Management
Serve as a primary point of contact for project-related communications
Facilitate respectful, clear communication among contractors, staff, leadership, and community partners

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Education Requirement : Must meet the following requirements:
3-5+ years of experience in project coordination, facilities management, construction administration, or related work
Experience managing projects from planning/design through construction, inspection, punch list, and closeout.
Experience managing projects involving multiple consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
Experience supporting building renovation or capital projects (nonprofit, healthcare, or community facilities preferred)
Familiarity with lead, asbestos, mold, silica, and other hazardous-material concerns associated with renovation of existing buildings.Experience coordinating with contractors to identify and address jobsite safety concerns is highly desirable. OSHA 30-Hour Construction training is preferred.
Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable accessibility requirements for public buildings, including accessibility requirements related to entrances, routes, doors, restrooms, parking, signage, and other building elements. Experience coordinating accessibility requirements during the design, permitting, and construction phases of public-building renovation projects is highly desirable.
15-20 years of personal and/or professional experience working closely with American Indian, Alaska Native, Kānaka Maoli/Native Hawaiian, and/or Pasifika communities.
Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders with clarity and diplomacy
Experience working in Indigenous, nonprofit, or community-based organizations strongly preferred
Familiarity with trauma-informed, culturally responsive, or community-led project approaches is an asset
Experienced in using Google Workplace, Microsoft Office, DocuSign, and Adobe
Sensitive awareness of diverse cultural, socio-economic, and lifestyle backgrounds.
Strong verbal and written communication and skills.
Budget tracking and basic financial literacy
Comfort navigating ambiguity and evolving project needs
Familiarity with building permits needed for project
Work independently with regular contact / coordination with the Admin Team
Ability to understand and resolve complex problems.
Ability to work with conflicting deadlines.
Other Logistical Requirements
Operates a personal vehicle to drive between various work sites.
Must have access to a car, valid driver's license and insurance (mileage will be reimbursed).
Must have a flexible schedule and supportive lifestyle to meet the needs of the program. Minimal weekend and evening work.
Pediatric CPR/First Aid and Blood-borne certificate. Must maintain it as a condition of continued employment.
HIPAA certification upon hire.
Must pass a background investigation, including relevant criminal history.

COMPENSATION:
Full-time $90k annually. This is a Project-Base position that will continue until the completion of the Birth Center renovation.
LOCATION:
Our office and birth center is located in Columbia City in Seattle, WA. This can be a hybrid position working from home some day, but physical presence on construction sites as needed. This position will specifically spend several days a week in person with the Admin Operations Manager, Operations Director and/or ED or onsite during construction. Position may require availability some evenings or weekends during key project phases.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Variable - Must be available to be on site while construction is happening.
