nRole Overview:

nThe BMV Accountant conducts a varity of general accounting functions for BMV Financial Operations. You will prepare, analyze, and maintain accounts or ledgers. Experience with PeopleSoft Financials is not required, but is a plus.

nThis is an onsite role in the central BMV Financial Operations Department at the Indiana Government Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

nSalary:

nThe salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education and experience. Use our Compensation Calculator ( to view the total compensation package.

nA Day in the Life:

nThe essential functions of this role are:

nnnAdvise the supervisor of the status of all accounts.

n

nnAssist management in the preparation of agency or program area budget requests.

n

nnDevelop and recommend implementation of new accounting methods and procedures pertaining to this positions’ area of responsibility.

n

nnAdvise program staff on accounting matters relating to specific program funding.

n

nnAssist in the development and maintenance of general policies for a fiscal program.

n

nnCoordinate use of the computerized accounting system for the program area.

n

nnCertify the accuracy of financial records and accounts.

n

nnAnalyze and interprets financial statements and reports.

n

nnControl the flow of appropriated funds.

n

nnReconcile complex discrepancies between accounts.

n

nnInteract with, and respond to, state and federal audit representatives.

n

nnMake necessary adjustments to close books.

n

nIndividuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

nnThorough knowledge of federal and state accounting laws, policies, and procedures.

nnThorough knowledge of agency organization and function.

n

nnThorough knowledge of automated accounting systems.

n

nnAbility to solve relatively complex accounting and budgeting problems.

n

nnAbility to develop accounting methods and procedures to meet agency needs.

n

nnAbility to assist in budget preparation.

n

nnAbility to prepare and interpret financial statements and reports.

n

nnAbility to reconcile discrepancies in accounts.

n

nnAbility to develop effective work relationships.

n

nnEffective communication skills.

n

nnAbility to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
