PURPOSE OF THE BOARD CHAIR

The Board Chair provides leadership to GNWL's Board of Directors, ensuring strong governance, effective board functioning, and alignment between the Board and the Executive Director. The Chair plays a central role in steering strategic direction, upholding accountability, and ensuring GNWL is managed ethically, responsibly, and effectively as we scale our impact.

OUR MISSION

Girl Now Woman Later educates girls about menstrual health and works to eliminate period shame, while increasing graduation rates for middle and high school girls in Burkina Faso.

Serve as a key ambassador for GNWL with funders, partners, and the broader community.

Help resolve governance gaps and ensure officer roles are actively filled and functioning.

Hold the leadership team and fellow board members accountable to the mission.

Attend and lead bi-monthly board meetings and stay informed on all board matters.

COMMITMENT

Attend and lead board meetings every two months.

Provide ongoing strategic guidance between meetings as needed.

Actively participate in fundraising, partnership-building, and outreach.

Serve as a visible ambassador for GNWL in your community and networks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We are seeking an individual who brings strong leadership, nonprofit governance experience, and a genuine passion for GNWL's mission. Ideal candidates will have:

Demonstrated experience in nonprofit board leadership or governance (prior Board Chair or officer experience strongly preferred).

A track record of strategic thinking and organizational leadership.

Integrity, accountability, and a commitment to building sustainable, community-led impact.

BENEFITS:

The Board Chair does not receive financial compensation but gains a meaningful leadership opportunity within a growing, mission-driven organization. The role offers:

The opportunity to shape the strategic direction of an organization advancing menstrual health equity for girls in underserved communities.

A high-visibility leadership role that strengthens your governance and executive leadership profile.
