BookkeeperThis Bookkeeper role supports a small nonprofit office by managing the full cycle of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. The position handles approximately 50 invoices per week, processes biweekly payroll for 153 employees using Paylocity, and oversees vendor invoicing and communications. The ideal candidate maintains accurate financial records, responds to inquiries from staff in the field, and contributes to the smooth day-to-day operation of the organizations accounting functions.ResponsibilitiesProcess approximately 50 accounts payable invoices per week, ensuring accuracy, proper coding, and timely payment.Manage accounts receivable activities, including processing incoming invoices and payments and maintaining up-to-date records.Administer biweekly payroll for 153 employees using Paylocity, ensuring accurate data entry, calculations, and on-time payroll processing.Maintain and update financial records in QuickBooks, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and reporting.Communicate with vendors regarding invoices, payments, and account status, and resolve any discrepancies in a professional manner.Respond to calls and inquiries from staff in the field, providing timely information and support related to accounting, payroll, and billing.Use Excel to track, organize, and analyze financial data as needed to support accounting and reporting activities.Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure adherence to established accounting procedures and organizational policies.Assist with basic financial documentation and record-keeping to support audits and internal reviews.Essential SkillsHands-on experience with accounts payable, including processing a high volume of invoices each week.Practical experience with accounts receivable, including processing invoices and coordinating payments.Payroll processing experience, preferably with responsibility for a large employee group on a biweekly schedule.Proficiency using Paylocity for payroll administration.Proficiency using QuickBooks for bookkeeping and financial record management.Basic Excel skills, including data entry, formatting, and simple calculations.Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and record-keeping.Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with vendors and internal staff.Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a small office environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working in or supporting a nonprofit organization is a plus.Comfort responding to calls from staff in the field and providing prompt assistance.Ability to work independently and take ownership of daily accounting tasks.Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain orderly financial records.Willingness to support a small team and contribute to a collaborative office culture.Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a small nonprofit office environment that values collaboration and reliability. The position primarily involves computer-based work using Paylocity, QuickBooks, and Excel, with a focus on accuracy and timely processing of financial transactions. The office setting offers a stable, mission-driven atmosphere where you can contribute directly to the organizations operations through effective bookkeeping and payroll support.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Branford, CT.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $29.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
