Unit Description
The Critical Care Unit (CCU) is a 20‑bed unit that cares for patients with life‑threatening conditions such as cardiogenic shock, heart failure, liver/renal failure, respiratory failure, neurological conditions, and sepsis. The unit also includes a Progressive Care Unit, which serves as an intermediary step between ICU and the med/surge floor.
Responsibilities
Under general supervision, manage the care delivery for patients in the unit throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge.
Utilize the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation.
Coordinate care provided by other professionals.
Delegate selected acts, tasks or functions within scope of practice and to patient care assistants and universal service assistants.
Provide physical care within scope of practice appropriate to patient acuity.
Document and communicate patient response, resource consumption and anticipated needs during each tour of duty.
Demonstrate competencies specific to the critical care population.
Maintain high levels of communication—verbal, written and electronic—across the care team.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s degree preferred and must be obtained within 8years of hire.
Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the State of Michigan.
BLS certification required upon completion of core orientation; critical care or ALS certification and other unit‑specific certifications may be required.
Ability to read, interpret and analyze clinical data from computer systems and equipment to inform patient care planning.
Strong verbal, written and electronic communication skills.
Physical ability to lift up to 50pounds and assist with heavier tasks as needed.
Shift Details
12‑hour night shift, full time, scheduled 36 hours per week.
