Build Supervisor (Starship)Starbase, TXSpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.Build Supervisor (Starship)The Build Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of fabricators, welders, and technicians building the primary and secondary structures for the Starship and Super Heavy vehicles. The Build Supervisor is the most influential person on-site to drive progress on an hour-by-hour and day-by-day basis. The Supervisor of the team will take technical direction from the engineering team and turn it into reality by building, retaining, and managing their team effectively; distributing labor resources, prioritizing certain aspects of the build, and setting headcount requirements where necessary. The Supervisor is also a key enabler to a productive, fun, and hard-working culture. For this role specifically, it is highly important that the Supervisor is an inspiring leader, oftentimes working side by side with their build team.Responsibilities:Supervise shop floor activity, including daily schedules and workflowLead and manage a staff of ~30 technicians including all performance management related tasksReview work instructions and make change recommendations when neededAssess and vet appropriate skillsets as neededIdentify training needs and develop training programsProvide required data and reporting to support departmental metrics and improvement objectivesMonitor labor hours and overtime, and implement improvement plans and time management with staffAccomplish production results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job resultsEffectively organize, assign and track work/deliverables for the team, ensuring seamless progression through multi-shift work schedulesInitiate and foster a spirit of cooperation within and between departmentsEnsure product quality and conformance to specificationsMaintain tooling and consumable supply inventoryImprove area safety and efficiency through regular auditing and continuous improvementContinuously improve process and manpower efficiency, utilization and productivityBasic Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or 5+ years of experience in final assembly production: aviation, aerospace, mechanical systems2+ years of experience in leading a team or a projectPreferred Skills and Experience:A&P licenseExperience applying lean manufacturing principles and efficiency methods8+ years of experience in final assembly and production in a fast paced manufacturing environmentExperience bringing teams and processes from development to production highly desirableFamiliarity with design for manufacturability, kaizen, lean manufacturing, six sigma, and failure mode effects analysisAbility to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with Engineering and ProductionAble to adapt to constant changing work assignments and fast paced work environmentExcellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracyAdditional Requirements:Must be available to work extended hours and weekends, which varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility requiredMust be available to work 1st shift (6:00am - 6:00pm) or 2nd shift (6:00pm - 6:00am)Flight hardware is typically built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is requiredPhysical effort including sitting or standing for extended periods of time and lifting and carrying weight such as materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs. unassisted)Work performed in an environment with exposure to fumes, odors, and noiseOccasionally exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain)Must be available to work extended hours and weekends, which varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility requiredMust be available to work 1st shift or 2nd shiftMust be able to travel for short and extended trips as neededStand: Up to 10 hours per daySit: Up to 1 hourPush/Pull: Up to 75lbs. (unassisted) 30 minutes to 1 hour per dayClimb (ladder/stairs): Up to 6 hours per dayKneel/Crouch: Up to 6 hours per dayUpper body twist: Up to 6 hours per dayAbility to work in temperatures over 80 degrees 6 hours or greater per dayCandidate must be capable of safely working at heights (up to 500ft), in confined spaces, using an air purifying respirator, operating heavy equipment and machinery, and performing the physical requirements of the job listed in the job description.
