Job description
Building Security GuardAs a Building Security Guard at The Oncenter, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all team members and guests, with customer service being your number one focus. Your primary responsibility is to enforce security measures, deter potential incidents, and respond promptly to any security concerns that may arise during operations. This is a flexible, as-needed position with no set weekly schedule. Shifts are offered based on operational needs, and employees may pick up available shifts based on their availability.Essential duties and responsibilities include utilizing surveillance systems to monitor the premises and identify potential security threats, communicating, greeting, and offering information or directions to guests in a courteous and helpful manner, conducting foot patrols throughout the facilities, observing ongoing activities, and proactively identifying and preventing signs of intrusion, verifying credentials and enforcing access control measures to restrict entry to authorized personnel only, handling phone calls professionally, providing guidance, and promptly notifying relevant individuals as needed, conducting thorough incident investigations and compiling accurate incident reports, receiving, documenting, tracking, and managing deliveries efficiently, overseeing the facility's lost and found, contacting individuals upon identifying lost items, promptly responding to fire alarm systems, investigating and notifying the appropriate personnel and authorities, collaborating with staff to ensure clients and guests experience the highest quality service during their events, participating in ongoing training programs to stay updated on security procedures, emergency response protocols, and industry best practices, adhering to the department's dress code and presenting yourself in a friendly and approachable manner, performing other assigned responsibilities and duties as needed, and performing other duties as assigned based on business needs.Qualifications to perform this job successfully include a high school diploma or equivalent, a New York State Security Guard License, proven experience in security roles, preferably in a large venue or event setting, previous hospitality industry, customer service, or retail experience preferred, ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations, flexibility to work irregular hours, including holidays with the opportunity to sign up for open shifts, demonstrate reliability and a strong teamwork mindset and the ability to seamlessly execute programs, adaptability to remain flexible and responsive to evolving circumstances, proficiency in handling and resolving high-tension situations, effectively managing challenging guests, clear and effective verbal communication to interact with guests, staff, and emergency personnel, exhibit acute judgment, tact, and diplomacy, ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, or patrol extended periods during events and shifts, ability to maintain composure, react promptly, and make decisions swiftly in high-stress situations, agility and flexibility to swiftly walk, run, or move to respond promptly to emergency situations, sharp vision to monitor and observe activities and identify potential security threats, capacity to lift or move objects exceeding 50lbs, barricades, or equipment when necessary.
