Litigation Senior Attorney or Non-Equity Shareholder
LOCATION: Niles, St. Joseph or South Haven, Michigan
GENERAL PURPOSE: Butzel is seeking a standout candidate to join our growing team in Southwest Michigan. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare for and represent clients in litigation proceedings, including trials, hearings, discovery, motion practice, etc.
Construct and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
Take and defend depositions and interact with expert witnesses.
Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and other attorneys within the firm.
Provide guidance, oversight, and mentoring to attorneys with less litigation experience, including reviewing work product and supporting their professional development.
Maintain responsive communication with other Firm attorneys and clients regarding case developments.
Provide legal counsel and develop case strategies tailored to clients’ unique needs.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
Ability to provide client service befitting Butzel standards of excellence and hospitality.
Oversee case files and manage deadlines efficiently using legal practice management systems.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR TRAINING:
Must be a graduate of an accredited law school.
Must have at least 6 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
Admitted to practicing law in the state of Michigan.
Have experience within the practice area of commercial litigation.
Supervisory and mentoring experience a plus.
