Job description

Job Developer

YouthBuild Boston empowers young people with the social, vocational, academic, and life skills needed to build pathways toward self-sufficiency, neighborhood responsibility, and careers in the building industry. Through hands-on training, career preparation, and strong partnerships, YBB helps young adults prepare for meaningful work and long-term success.

YouthBuild Boston is seeking a motivated and relationship-driven Job Developer to support young adults as they prepare for employment, apprenticeship, further training, and long-term career pathways. The Job Developer will work directly with participants and alumni to build job readiness, clarify career goals, prepare for interviews, connect with employers, and transition successfully into the workforce. This role will also help maintain strong employer relationships and support participants after placement to encourage retention and advancement.

This is a highly collaborative role. The Job Developer will work closely with case managers, vocational instructors, workforce partners, employers, alumni, and the Director of Programs and Partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities

Career Readiness & Participant Support Meet regularly with participants to understand their goals, interests, work history, and readiness for employment.

Support participants in developing career goals and understanding possible pathways in construction, apprenticeship, training, education, and related fields.

Coach participants on professionalism, communication, interview preparation, workplace expectations, and follow-through.

Help participants prepare resumes, practice interviews, and build confidence speaking about their experience.

Support participants in preparing for job fairs, site visits, employer meetings, and interviews.

Placement & Employer Connections Connect participants with appropriate employment, apprenticeship, training, education, internship, and other placement opportunities.

Develop and maintain relationships with employer partners in construction, construction-adjacent fields, and other entry-level employment pathways.

Track employer needs, open positions, hiring timelines, and participant fit.

Prepare participants before employer interviews and follow up afterward.

Work with the Director of Programs and Partnerships on union, board-supported, and high-priority placement opportunities.

Program Collaboration Participate in regular participant evaluations with case managers and vocational instructors.

Contribute to participant service plans by tracking career goals, readiness, resumes, referrals, placement progress, and follow-up.

Coordinate with partner organizations that provide resume support, mock interviews, certifications, and job readiness coaching.

Help identify guest speakers, employer visits, job shadowing opportunities, and career exposure activities.

Alumni & Follow-Up Support Provide structured follow-up support to participants after placement.

Help participants problem-solve early workplace challenges and remain connected to YBB.

Track employment, education, training, and apprenticeship outcomes.

Collect placement documentation and follow-up information.

Support alumni who re-engage for job search, re-placement, or career advancement assistance.

Data & Reporting Maintain accurate placement, follow-up, and employer records.

Document participant progress, employer referrals, placement outcomes, and follow-up activity.

Prepare regular placement updates and reports for program leadership.

Help track progress toward YBB's participant placement goals.

The ideal candidate understands that job development is more than finding openings. It is about helping young people become ready for opportunity and helping them keep it once they get there. This person is organized, steady, relational, and direct. They can build trust with participants and credibility with employers. They believe young people can grow, and they understand that strong preparation, clear expectations, and consistent follow-up make placement more successful.

Preferred qualifications include two to three years of experience in workforce development, job development, career coaching, case management, employer engagement, or a related field. Experience working with young adults, especially ages 18–24, is also preferred. Familiarity with construction, building trades, apprenticeships, or workforce training is helpful.

YouthBuild Boston offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, employer-paid life and disability insurance, 503(b) retirement, and professional development funding.

YouthBuild Boston is an equal-opportunity employer. YBB is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful work environment. Applicants of all races, colors, religions, sexes, gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, education levels, national origins, marital statuses, genetics, disabilities, ages, veteran statuses, and diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
