Career Coach
The Career Coach supports adults experiencing mental health-related challenges in achieving their employment goals. This position provides individualized career advisement, advocacy, and ongoing support to help program participants obtain and maintain competitive employment.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Engages individuals in a personal and supportive manner, building trusting relationships that promote wellness, recovery, and personal growth.
Provides individuals with services aligned with department goals, objectives, and outcomes. Services may include individual, group, and supportive services delivered at the program site and/or in community settings.
Develops and delivers individualized and group-based curriculum designed to build essential workplace readiness, soft skills, and employment related skills, including but not limited to punctuality and attendance, appropriate workplace attire and hygiene, professional boundaries, effective verbal and written communication, conflict resolution, self-advocacy, time management, and stress management.
Develops and delivers instruction in common computer and documentation skills necessary for successful employment, with particular emphasis on skills relevant to Peer Specialist roles, including basic computer use, email, caseload management, professional documentation, session-note writing, and goal development.
Develops and delivers curriculum and individual instruction addressing employment search and retention skills, including resume development, interviewing skills, professional email etiquette, understanding performance evaluations and employer-provided benefits, and self-advocacy for reasonable workplace accommodations.
Provides individualized career assessment, exploration, and advisement to assist participants in identifying employment interests, strengths, skills, and appropriate job opportunities. Facilitates job-shadowing, informational interviews, and other career exploration activities, including opportunities specific to Peer Specialist positions.
Assists participants in identifying and completing required education, certifications, training, and work experiences necessary to pursue employment goals, including arranging Peer Specialist work experiences and other opportunities to develop practical job skills.
Provides employment search and placement support, including identifying job leads, assisting with applications, developing resumes and portfolios, and preparing participants for interviews through mock interviews and practice scenarios, particularly for Peer Specialist positions.
Provides advocacy and assistance in accessing funding and resources for education, training, job tryouts, and employment-related services, including guidance with financial assistance applications and applications for ACCES-VR services.
Provides job-retention support to program participants, including job coaching, problem-solving, workplace adjustment, and assistance navigating workplace expectations and challenges. Provides time-limited support following job placement to promote successful adjustment and employment retention.
Collaborates with employers, community partners, educational and training programs, and other resources to support participants' employment, wellness, and overall stability. Makes referrals as appropriate to address employment goals, basic needs, and barriers to employment.
Maintains accurate, timely, and comprehensive documentation in accordance with department requirements, organizational policies, and HIPAA regulations.
Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Promotes and supports an organizational culture that is culturally responsive, inclusive, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed.
Schedules and coordinates meetings, appointments, job-shadowing opportunities, training activities, and other services, both in person and virtually, as needed. Communicates meeting details, including location, format, and other relevant information, to all attendees.
Attends meetings, trainings, professional development activities, and other activities as assigned.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
Associate degree required.
1 years' experience in employment related services preferred.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities required.
Experience working with youth preferred.
CASE Certification required to be completed within 1 year of hire.
Equipment, Machines and Software Used:
Reliable transportation for travel to community sites.
Ability to operate various office equipment including computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier, scanner, and calculator.
Computer Software: Electronic Health Record experience preferred; Paylocity, Microsoft Office to include Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to handle a variety of work assignments and to think creatively.
Capable of working both independently and as an interdependent member of a team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Ability to work with a diverse group of people and groups successfully with sensitivity and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and practices.
Knowledge of community employment resources.
Personal lived experience with mental health is preferred.
Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Ability to exert up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
Finger dexterity required to operate telephone and computer keyboard.
Hearing at a level to enable one to hear normal conversation.
Visual requirements of having the ability to read documents, the computer screen, etc.
Environmental Conditions:
Work is performed in a typical office environment where there is no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Work Hours:
The standard work week is 35 hours, Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. Flexible work hours may be required on occasion.
Compensation:
Compensation will be in the range of $23.00 - 25.00 per hour
