We are pioneering innovation and paving a better tomorrow with factory automation solutions worldwide.Carpenter is responsible for auditing the picklist against the parts presented to ensure order accuracy. Carpenter will determine size of crate needed. Select the appropriate lumber materials (pick plywood sheets and dimensional lumber) and cut to appropriate size. Safely load crate, brace parts and protect against moisture (as needed). Weigh crate, log and complete paperwork. Place complete crate and paperwork in shipping area so shipper can process BOL (Bill of Lading).Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Audit the order against the pick list – requiring high attention to detail. Match part numbers and quantity accurately. Determine the appropriate shipping method to ensure correct packaging methods and weights are consideredBuild Crate: Determine the required crate size by measuring largest pieces and estimating the overall dimensions of crateSelect lumber needed and cut to size. Assemble crate, add parts to crate ensuring proper fitTake pictures of the parts on the order prior to loading crate, and take pictures as each layer is created in the crateSecure the parts in the crate by blocking and bracing parts to prevent shifting during transit. Ensure lighter weight parts are on topUse rust inhibitor for metal parts that are not painted and protect parts that have delicate surfacesOperate forklift to move crates and stock lumber or other supplies in the carpenter shopConstruct shop pallets using the provided jigLogs daily crates on daily sales ordersOther duties as assignedNon-Essential Job Functions:Assist loading crew by building crates and skids when time allowsAssist shipping desk by packing cardboard boxes when neededQualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Knowledge:LEAN PrinciplesSkills:Reads a tape measure accurately to 1/16"Operates a forklift to pick up and load/unload trucksProficient in using power toolsCalculates crate sizes and builds them according to order specificationsAudits order against pick list, ensuring quantity and parts number matchPerforms tool maintenance by changing out saw blades, filters, jams, and adjusting stop brakesKnowledge of basic print readingUtilizes vault toolAbilities:Participates on problem solving teamsAbility to switch jobs in a moment's notice and start on different project or orderAbility to cross train into other areas as company requires for back upAbility to foster and work within a team environmentActively practices safety and participates in safety programs, while complying with all Columbia safety policiesAbility to follow written and verbal instructionAbility to simultaneously work on multiple projects at one timeWillingness to work extended hours to meet company needsMaintains a clean and safe work areaDisplays attention to detail and consistently follows Standard Work Instructions (when available) when completing tasksCommunicates well with peers, supervisor, customers, vendors, and other departmentsActively participates in Columbia Idea System, 6S, and other CI effortsEducation and/or Experience:High School Diploma or GED required1-3 years of experience preferredPhysical Demands (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
