Job description
Carpenter IUnder general supervision, performs a variety of general custodial and light groundskeeping work in the care and maintenance of assigned school buildings and facilities. Work involves sweeping, mopping and using vacuum cleaners to clean floors; washing walls, woodwork and fixtures; and policing buildings to empty trash receptacles and pick up debris, etc. Employee is also responsible for requisitioning necessary cleaning supplies. Reports to the Principal.Candidate will work under general supervision, perform semi-skilled carpentry tasks in an effort to ensure a safe environment for students and staff. Examples of work include building and repairing frame work, repairing cabinetry, repairing floor tile, assembling or repairing furniture, installation of televisions, and replacing glass in existing openings. This position will report to the maintenance supervisor and Director of Maintenance.Qualifications and licensure:High school diploma or equivalents, and5 years job experience related to nature of work, and orEquivalent combination of education and work experiencePossession of a valid North Carolina Driver's LicenseMust maintain a safe driving recordGeneral knowledge of common building materialsKnowledge of safety precautions and hazards associated with jobDuties and responsibilities:Install or repair drop and regular ceilingsInstall or repair floor coveringRepair drywallBuilding shelving and cabinetsAssembling furniturePrepare work ordersDesign projects, estimate materials needs, and purchase materialsAssist other trades when neededPerform all other duties as assigned by supervisorPhysical requirements (if applicable):Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicleRequires the ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, scaffolding, and/or in tight spacesMust be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipmentMust be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objectsSpecial requirements (if applicable):Ability to use and care for tools and equipmentAbility to follow directionAbility to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with building staff and associatesDisclaimer:This job description is intended to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within the job.
