Job description
Carpenter IAn employee in this class performs simple tasks in the field of carpentry. Examples of such work are building and repairing frameworks, scaffolds, supports, and simple wooden articles. The employee is given specific instructions for work to be done. Direct supervision is given to employees at this level.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:Ability to use and care for equipment and tools used in performing work assignmentsAbility to follow simple instructionsMust furnish own hand toolsMust have a valid NC driver's license and provide own transportation to and from workMust be willing to take and successfully pass the test for commercial driver's licenseMust be capable of and willing to climb ladders and work on scaffoldMust be willing to work overtime (weekends or afternoons) when necessaryMust be drug and alcohol free and will be periodically tested for drugs and alcoholMust have and maintain a driving record that qualifies for school system insurance coverageMust be able to obtain CDL (Commercial Driver's License) permit within 6 months of employment and CDL License within 1 year of employmentEducation and Training:Some aptitude for carpentry work demonstrated in prior work, school experience or personal activitiesSome experience in the performance of manual tasks is preferredMust have a high school diplomaPerformance Responsibilities:Gathers materials to be usedMeasures and marks materials for cuttingCuts and drills wood and other materials using hand and power toolsJoins materials with nails, screws or glueChecks accuracy of work with levels, rulers and measuring tapesFits and nails sheathing on outer walls and roofs in preparation for boardsPerform duties indoor and outdoor during normal/extreme weather conditionsPerforms other duties as specified by the Maintenance Director and Maintenance SupervisorPhysical Requirements:Must be able to pass employment physicalMust be able to do a considerable amount of liftingMust be able to lift moderate to heavy weight (80-100 pounds), stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, climb ladders and work on scaffolding, for extended periods of timeMust have the ability and physical strength sufficient to move objects
