CarpenterUnion County Public Schools Job DescriptionPosition Title: Carpenter Term Of Employment: 12 monthsDate: 4/21/2023 Date Of Previous Rev: 4/21/2023FLSA Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Pay Grade:Job Summary: Under limited supervision, the Carpenter will perform all levels of carpentry, building and repair of structures and other items, with an emphasis on finished work.Essential Job Functions1. Determines type of materials needed, quantities, and requests materials projected to be needed.2. Develops job plans from blueprints, construction drawings, or rough sketches.3. Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed.4. Follows established environmental, safety, and health rules and regulationsDuties & Responsibilities1. Accurately maintain records, as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.2. Document work order requests with appropriate information regarding time, materials and resolution.3. Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines or powered equipment.4. Measures, marks, and arranges materials to established layout based on blueprints or instructions from supervisors.5. Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive.6. Installs and repairs glass, as needed.7. Effectively communicates with internal stakeholders to schedule repairs and or replacement of structures, etc.8. Inspects, maintains and operates assigned vehicles in according with the UCPS fleet use guidelines.9. Inspects equipment for defects prior to use. Removes equipment from operation and communicates to supervision regarding requests for replacements.10. Effectively produce professionally written correspondence across various communication mediums, i.e. cell phone, computer.11. Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications Or Standards Required To Perform EssentialJob FunctionsMinimum Qualifications Desirable QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalentValid North Carolina driver's licenseMinimum Three (3) years of commercial carpentry experience or a combination of training and experienceKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesCommunication/InteractionsAbility to work with diverse individuals and/or group.Customer RelationshipsRequires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.Must be adaptable to performing in stressful and emergency situations.Physical RequirementsWork Environment: Medium/Heavy Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 60 lbs., prolonged standing, frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment.
