Job Description

nSupport Arizona DCS’s SSI initiatives for youth in foster care by developing and filing Social Security claims, coordinating records collection, corresponding with caseworkers, and tracking cases through SSA/DDS. This role requires high attention to detail, strong written communication, and comfort working across multiple systems simultaneously.

n • Develop and file SSI claims for youth in foster care

n • Collect, organize, and track medical, mental health, educational (IEPs), and work records

n • Identify correct SSA-required forms; obtain signatures (youth, parents, case planners)

n • Reach out to child welfare social workers via email; request missing information

n • Submit medical evidence to DDS upon request

n • Track statuses with SSA and DDS; maintain timely follow-ups

n • Coordinate and confirm Consultative Exam (CE) appointments; help reschedule as needed

n • Provide monthly reporting/statistics to supervisors

n • Maintain thorough case documentation

nManage 10–20% phone communication (calls routed through the computer), with email as the primary channel

nSkills and Requirements

n• Experience working as a case worker, case manager, youth and foster care, government or nonprofit entity or agency

n • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

n • Understanding of (or ability to learn) SSA disability criteria for children/young adults

n • Sharepoint experience or similar document management systems

n • Associate degree or 2+ years of relevant experience

n • Strong professional writing and verbal communication

n • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and critical thinking

n • Strong interpersonal skills, especially with public sector agencies

n • Ability to maintain confidentiality

n • Organized record-keeping to track monthly goals

n • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

n • Comfortable context-switching (bouncing between tasks/systems and regaining focus)

n • Mission-driven, empathetic to youth/foster care population

n • Comfortable with high-volume email and structured follow-ups

n • Able to prioritize and triage multiple cases simultaneously

n • Ability to operate two laptops simultaneously and move information between systems

nReliable internet; adequate workspace for dual-device productivity • Medical or Human Services background

n • Knowledge of SSI, RSDI, and other federal benefits for foster youth

n • Prior experience with foster care, SSA claims, or Disability Determination Services (DDS)

nSocial work exposure or case management in public sector environments
