Summary
CHS in Council Bluffs, IA is looking for a Hazmat Truck Driver to join our team! This individual would be responsible for hauling fuel to our local customers. This is a M-F home daily position with Saturdays as needed during our busy seasons. The ideal candidate would have a Class A CDL with hazmat and tanker endorsements and 2+ years of tractor trailer experience. Join our team today! This position is eligible for a $3000 sign on bonus as well as driver safety incentives (up to $6000/year)
Responsibilities
- Operate a semi-tractor and tanker trailer to deliver hazardous energy-grade materials to customer sites in a safe, compliant manner.
- Comply with DOT regulations and company policies for safe driving, including route and hazard awareness.
- Load and unload products by connecting/disconnecting loading arms and hoses; follow all hazardous material handling and transfer safety procedures.
- Deliver professional, customer-focused service during pickups and deliveries, coordinate with customers and internal teams.
- Prepare delivery documentation and daily load/unload reports; record accurate electronic logs.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections; submit maintenance reports and escalate repair needs and equipment issues promptly.
- Immediately notify leadership of incidents, near misses, spills/releases, or safety concerns; execute required response and reporting procedures.
- Support related tasks such as equipment hookups, site readiness checks, and assigned duties
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- Valid Class A or Class B CDL (as required for the equipment/route)
- Valid Hazmat and Tanker endorsements required
- 2+ years of verifiable CDL driving experience
- Must meet age requirement
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and compliance, and complete required documentation accurately.
Additional Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience hauling hazardous materials
- Demonstrated safety performance and consistent adherence to procedures in hazardous materials operations.
- Demonstrated customer service and communication skills; interact professionally with internal teams and customers.
- Demonstrated experience completing tanker product transfers (loading/unloading) and related documentation in a regulated environment.
- Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. If required, selected candidates must pass pre-employment screenings, which may include all or a combination of drug, criminal, motor vehicle check, physical requirements, and FMCSA Clearinghouse.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to safely climb in and out of truck cabs and to the top of a tanker trailer
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; travel and time away from home as required by the schedule
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in environments with regular exposure to hazardous materials.
CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
