Job description
Field Specialist/AssistantAs a Field Specialist/Assistant, you will provide support in external plant (OSP) telecommunications construction projects, both aerial and underground, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The work may include fiber optic installations to the home (FTTH), construction of conduits and access chambers, trenching, plow laying, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), micro-trenching, vacuum excavation, cable laying and blowing, aerial construction, pole work, and service entrance installation, depending on project requirements and ground conditions.What you will do:Follow the instructions of the Foreman or Supervisor to perform field tasks safely and efficiently.Assist with excavation work with shovel, clearing of weeds, cleaning of the work area, gardening, washing of vehicles, loading and unloading, and handling of materials.Supervise excavation work to avoid hitting or damaging existing utilities.Follow safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.Operate or assist with trucks, trailers, and equipment, according to received training.Safely manage inventory, tools, and equipment, and follow established procedures in the workplace.Climb poles safely once you have received the corresponding training and certification.About you:You are a person who prioritizes safety, responsible, and comfortable working outdoors under any weather conditions and in demanding situations.You take pride in doing quality work, enjoy solving problems, and are willing to contribute actively as part of a practical work team.You want to learn the craft of telecommunications construction to advance in your professional career, including areas such as equipment operation, aerial lineman, coaxial cable splicing, fiber optic splicing, directional drilling, among others.You have a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a DOT medical card for driving purposes.A CDL license is highly preferred.Applicants will be subject to a driving history review (MVR) and must meet the company's standards to maintain a safe driving record.Ability to lift and transport up to 70 pounds (approximately 32 kg).Ability to read maps, plans, diagrams, and schematics.Certification for climbing work or related experience is preferred (mandatory for assignments involving pole work).Preferred experience in external plant (OSP) fiber optic construction, both aerial and underground.Preferred knowledge of materials for aerial installations, safety distance codes, and network design.Preferred certification as a traffic flagger or ability to obtain it when necessary.We are a proud partner of the DoD SkillBridge program for members of the Armed Forces who are transitioning to civilian life.
