Job DescriptionJob DescriptionOperates a tractor-trailer or truck with a capacity of at least 26,000 pounds to transport and deliver general freight across mixed routes. The CDL Truck Driver reports to the Dispatch Manager and performs customer-site, driver-only, and dock-to-dock deliveries, including driver-assisted loading and unloading while maintaining safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
Responsibilities
Inspect vehicles and trailers to verify mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
Plan and navigate mixed routes using maps, delivery instructions, and route information.
Secure general freight using appropriate ropes, blocks, chains, binders, covers, and related equipment.
Load and unload freight or assist loading crews, operating specialized loading equipment as needed.
Maneuver trucks into loading and unloading positions and verify proper equipment placement.
Couple and uncouple trailers, including connecting air and electrical lines and securing fifth-wheel locks.
Maintain hours-of-service, vehicle-service, delivery, and other required logs using electronic logging devices.
Comply with applicable federal and state commercial motor vehicle regulations, including cargo securement requirements.
Obtain delivery receipts or signatures and verify delivered goods, quantities, and condition.
Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, cargo issues, and property damage.
Perform basic vehicle maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs, including adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid.
Remove debris from trailers and inspect trailers after unloading to identify damage.
Required Qualifications
Completion of professional truck driving school.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Knowledge of commercial vehicle operation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Knowledge of cargo securement and electronic logging devices.
Defensive driving and route navigation skills.
Vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
Judgment and decision-making skills.
Time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 1 year of experience in commercial truck driving.
