Description

GAI Consultants is looking for a Senior CEI Engineering Manager to support our Transportation Business Sector in Ohio to serve as Construction Inspection Services Manager for state and private clients.

Job Duties:

Manage and staff CEI teams on highway, roadway, and bridge projects for various clients throughout the State of Ohio, including but not limited to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), local municipalities, counties, and other public and private clients.

Direct highly complex and specialized construction engineering administration and inspection programs.

Plan and organize the work of subordinates and staff members.

Actively market projects and lead proposal preparation.

Manage existing client relationships and develop new clients for the firm.

Oversee the completeness and accuracy of the project team's work by actively supervising and guiding the team toward overall project objectives.

Perform project management duties and other tasks as required.

Other Preferred Duties/Certifications:

ODOT Construction Inspection certification(s) or ability to obtain within 120 days of appointment.

ODOT Construction Administration certification(s) or ability to obtain within 120 days of appointment.

Familiarity with ODOT construction management systems, documentation requirements, and project delivery procedures.

Ability to perform field inspection duties and fill in for project staff as needed.

Thorough understanding of ODOT standards, specifications, manuals, and construction procedures.

Ability to train employees in inspection procedures and ODOT compliance requirements.

General Characteristics

Well-rounded with aspects of consulting, industry standards and Company protocols, participation in professional societies and industry associations is preferred.

Establish defined project scopes, budgets, and proposals.

Coming up with ideas to improve productivity of a specific team, department, group, or division.

Strategic thinking and alignment: Manager must understand broader organizational strategies and goals to effectively guide direct reports' efforts.

Change leadership: Manager plays an important role enacting top-level changes across operational divisions as supporters of change.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Construction or related field required.

Technical Responsibilities

Oversight and coordination of project tasks.

Available to junior staff for guidance.

Provides opportunities to junior staff for becoming familiar with task management and financials.

Working knowledge of project contract documents.

Recruiting and retaining staff.

Interpreting the strategy of top-level management and translating it into everyday policies.

Developing and implementing day-to-day routines for a team, department, group, or division.

Talent development: Develop Staff skills and empowering them as problem-solvers boosts innovation and productivity.

Oversee learning, coaching, and career progression.

Project and Task Management

Can manage Tasks.

Management Responsibility

Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.

Implements staff development plans within their practice segment, including technical, management, and leadership skills.

Evaluates the effectiveness of leaders and teams.

Lead and/or supervise the coordination of office personnel and field crews including providing job assignments, information, direction, and daily checking of field notes. Verifying the accuracy of field measurements and calculations.

Help develop, implement, and monitor Business Development Plan for Business Development staff.

Monitoring employee performance.

Making sure that processes and procedures are in compliance with the overall organization's guidelines.

Inspiring and encouraging employees to perform their best.

Assigning and supervising specific work tasks.

Allocating resources within a team, department, group, or division.

Reporting issues and performance to top-level management.

Well-being fostering: Prioritizing mental health, work-life integration and enhances retention.

Manager shapes day-to-day workplace experiences.

Communication Skills

Possesses exceptional oral and written communication skills, including negotiation of critical issues.

Integrates different forms of effective and persuasive communication to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key staff and officials, or other practices and companies.
