Job description
Center CustodianUnder the supervision of the Center Director, the Custodian provides cleaning and sanitation services for the Senior Center facility and ensures proper maintenance of all areas of the facility in accordance with Health Department and Senior Center Standards. Performs minor maintenance and repairs, as needed.The mission of PCA is to improve the quality of life for older Philadelphians and those with disabilities and assist them in achieving the greatest possible levels of health, independence, and productivity.Benefits include medical, prescription drug, vision, and dental coverage; flexible spending plan (health and dependent care); EAP, life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance; pre-tax commuting, and parking benefits; 403(b) retirement plan with employer contributions and optional employee pre-tax contributions; and annual paid time off and vacation based upon tenure.Required Education and Experience includes a high school or vocational school graduate or equivalent, experience with cleaning highly trafficked areas, four years' related maintenance experience, experience completing minor repairs, familiarity with HVAC systems, experience receiving and accounting for deliveries, and experience coordinating and moving material and furnishings.Job Responsibilities include cleaning restrooms, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, dusting, cleaning spills or problem areas immediately, working with the Center Director on a deep cleaning schedule, picking up and removing trash from all areas, cleaning kitchen including sink, shelves, floors and wiping down kitchen appliances, moving supplies, equipment and small furniture, detecting and reporting any malfunctions or defects, maintaining all records related to the repair and maintenance of center equipment, maintaining the exterior of the facility, performing light and routine maintenance, ensuring proper signage is affixed, and other duties as may be assigned.Professional Characteristics include the ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently, the ability to lift over 30 lbs., and the ability to assemble items as needed.Additional requirements include a pre-employment physical, drug testing, criminal history clearance, organized, tracked, and well-maintained maintenance equipment and supplies inventory, an ongoing deep cleaning schedule, cleaning of kitchen areas and restrooms completed in the expected time frame, maintaining a pleasant and cooperative attitude, assuring consumer confidentiality as required, developing job skills as needed to adapt to change, and providing excellent customer service to all center customers.
