Job description
Central Processing TechnicianCentral Processing DutiesDecontaminates, cleans, and disinfects surgical instruments and equipment following established protocols.Inspects instruments for cleanliness, function, and defects; removes damaged items from service.Assembles instrument trays accurately according to protocolOperates sterilization equipment (e.g., steam autoclaves, Sterrad, ultrasonic, washer/disinfector) ensuring all parameters are met and documentedMaintains preventative maintenance and cleaning schedule of all sterilization equipmentMonitors and documents sterilization processes, including biological and chemical indicatorsMaintains accurate sterilization logs and records in accordance with regulatory standardsEnsures proper handling and storage of sterile supplies to maintain sterilityStoreroom/Inventory ManagementReceives, verifies, and stocks incoming supplies and equipmentMaintains organized and clean storeroom area following safety and infection control standardsAssists in monitoring inventory levels and restocks clinical areas as neededAssists in rotating stock using FIFO (first in, first out) to minimize waste and expirationAssists in identifying and communicating low stock, backorders, or supply issues to leadershipAssists with periodic inventory counts and supply auditsSupport of Clinical OperationsAssists with picking cases for the next day based on daily surgical scheduleEnsures timely delivery of instruments and supplies to the operating roomResponds promptly to urgent supply or equipment needs during proceduresCollaborates with nursing and surgical staff to ensure readiness for casesCompliance and SafetyAdheres to infection prevention and control policies and proceduresFollows OSHA, CDC, AORN, AAMI/ANSI safety guidelinesUses personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriatelyParticipates in quality assurance and performance improvement activitiesMaintains competency and completes required education and trainingExperience and Education :EDUCATION: High school diploma requiredCentral service technician certification preferredEXPERIENCE: 1 year hospital experience preferredCentral processing experience preferredLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: National certification must be obtained within first year of employment requiredEqual Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
