Certified Medical Assistant III - Primary Care OrmondProvides basic medical care and health teaching to patients in an outpatient, non-emergency care setting for an outpatient medical practice.Job Qualifications:High School diploma or GED requiredGraduate of an approved school or institution for Medical Assistants with current certification requiredSkills, Experience, Licensure:Current BLS RequiredStrong pharmacological knowledgeMeets or exceeds level I & IIDuties and Responsibilities:In addition to all tasks included in level I and II:Registration functionsSchedulingInsurance VerificationPrior AuthorizationsCheck in /outCollectionsCash proceduresAssist provider in obtaining microbiological tests such as:Streptococcal testingUrine cultureWound cultureVaginal culturesGram stainingSensitivity testingSputum culturePerform tuberculosis screenTineMantouxScreen and follow up patient test resultsAlert provider of abnormal resultsUpon provider order: Discuss test results with patient and document conversation; Instruct patient on diet modification; Instruct patient on drug dosage modificationSchedule patient for: Hospitalization, Surgery, Return office visit, Outside provider visits, Physical therapy, Other treatmentsPrepare and administer medications as directed by providerCalculate drug dosageReconstitute a powdered medicationMixing medications from separate vialsEvaluate and recommend equipment and suppliesEvaluate and compare medical suppliesInstruct patient with special needsInstruct and demonstrate routine procedures for monitoring body functionsInstruct and demonstrate safety procedures for home medical equipmentDemonstrate care and use of special equipment to patient: Crutches, Walker, Cane, Wheelchair, Hearing Aids, Braces, Splints, Casts, Slings, Prosthetic appliancesProvide written and verbal instructions on chronic disease conditions as instructed by providerTeach patient methods of health promotion and disease preventionProvide verbal and written information about routine physical examinations and laboratory testingProvide verbal and written information as applicable to specialty and providerNutrition and diet therapyExercise and weight controlHygieneSexually transmitted / communicable diseases and preventative measuresFamily planningSmoking cessationAlcohol / drug prevention and treatmentInstruct and assist patients with performance of self-breast examinationsRefer patients to outside resources as instructed by providerOrient and train personnelIntroduce office staffOrient to facilityAssist in completion of personnel documentsAssign work scheduleMake daily work assignmentsDemonstrate use of policy and procedure manuals for officeDemonstrate use of office equipmentProvide information on CDC universal precautions, OSHA, CLIA, and American Disabilities Act regulationsEmergency preparedness planTJC, ACHA, DCF as applicable
