Job description
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care to all patients with physical and emotional or psychiatric disorders, supports therapeutic milieu, ensures safety and well-being of patients and carries out general nursing assistance necessary to treatment of adolescents, adults, or older adult patients as assigned. The CNA along with the Mental Health Technician are the primary employees responsible for the safety of the unit milieu. Environmental safety rounds are required each shift and ongoing safety assessments, including securing contraband found within the milieu, will be completed by the Certified Nursing Assistants or Mental Health Technicians. Safety Observations are required to be documented and recorded in the patient's medical record as ordered by the psychiatric provider or under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) maintains knowledge of, participates in further training provided, and understands the potential risks regarding occupational health hazards (e.g. bloodborne pathogen exposures)Key Responsibilities:Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)Grooming and bathing patients with low mobilityPreparing each patient's room with necessary items such as blankets, pillows, medical equipment and toiletriesHelping patients with meals and intakeMaking sure patients have regular mealsMonitoring vitals and behavior and reporting them to the nursing and medical staffTransferring patients with low mobility from wheelchair to bed or wheelchair to toilet or shower chair and vice versaTurning or adjusting patients in bed to prevent bedsoresParticipate in treatment planningHelps identify patients' problems, needs, and strengthsCollecting and recording data on client behavior and progressAssists in creation and implementation of behavioral intervention plansSuggests modifications to treatment plan based on observations of patients' behaviorProvides input into discharge planningParticipate in implementing patients' treatment plans by monitoring patients' progressCommunicating information regarding patients' behavior to other members of treatment teamMaintains communication with patient, family members, and referral sources in patients' interestsCo-facilitates didactic, educational, and community groups within the context of the adolescent treatment programEncourages and facilitates patients' participation in therapeutic activitiesSupervises patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatmentProvides input during shift reportAccompany and transport patients as assigned.Orient new patients to unit, program, and milieuAssists patients in carrying out activities of daily living, when congruent with the patients' treatment plan and needs, age, and developmental levelMaintains a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for patientsParticipates in maintaining the therapeutic milieu on the unit, enforces the level system or other methods of behavior managementMaintain patient, program, department, and related documentationCarry out clerical and administrative assignment to support patient care and department and organization operationsComplete orientation and competency assessments as required for positionParticipate in activities enhancing professional growth and developmentUpholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards. Performs related duties, as requested
