nSummary:
nThe Clinical Nursing Assistant is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process under the direction of a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting.
nResponsibilities:
nnnAssist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
n
nnObserves, collects, and documents patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
n
nnAssists patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic/home health experience, and discharge.
n
nnProvides care/ treatments to patients as outlined in plan of care including, but not limited to:

nnMonitoring of vital signs
n
nnMeasurement of height and weight
n
nnSpecimen collection
n
nnSkin preps/scrubs such aschlorohexidine (CHG) bathing
n
nnCatheter care
n
nnCapillary blood glucose checks
n
nnSimple wound care
n
nnRange-of-motion exercises
n
nnDrain care
n
nnAssist patients with routine activities of daily living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, feeding and assisting with ambulation as outlined in plan of care
n
nnMaintains an effective clinical work environment including but not limited to cleaning the work area, changing linens, maintaining and monitoring supply levels, and transporting patients /specimens throughout hospital.
n
nnEnsures competency in all required skills and completes competency assessment annually per the documented competency checklist. Adheres to documented policies and processes as well as performing other related duties as assigned.

nnnMust have nursing assistant certification, such as Nurse Aide I registration as administered by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON)
