Certified Occupational Therapy AssistantThe Vermilion Association for Special Education is seeking a full-time certified occupational therapy assistant for a leave coverage in the second semester of the school year. VASE serves students from 10 rural districts in Vermilion County. Travel is required. The cooperative employs two additional COTAs and a certified occupational therapist so collaboration is easy! Numerous professional development opportunities are available and paid for by the association. License with the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is required. Wages and benefits are according to the VEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Current agreement includes full single health insurance.Duties include:Provide services in the areas of: Gross Motor, Fine Motor/Dexterity, Sensory Integration/Processing, Visual Perceptual/Visual Motor, Functional/Self-Help Skills, Reflex Integration, Neuromuscular Development, Adaptive Equipment Needs/Classroom and School Modifications, Seating and PositioningAssist in planning physical environments to meet special needs, use, and maintenance of special equipmentAssist in the development of IEP'sOffer suggestions for the adaptations of educational materialsAct as a team member in the eligibility conferenceSuggest specific techniques for handling, positioning, mobility, stimulation or inhibition of stimuliProvide workshops and in-services as neededDiscuss results of assessment with parents and teachersPlan home treatment with parentsAssist parents in planning any equipment or home modifications necessaryKeep adequate records and reports in order that progress and present levels of performance can be documentedMaintain communication with the child's physician as needed, including obtaining prescriptions for intervention as appropriateAssume responsibility for expanding his/her knowledge and professional skills in regard to his/her students and their total educational needsSupervise COTA students during their clinical placementsPerform other pertinent duties as assigned by the Occupational Therapist
