Job Details

This COTA opportunity is based in Yuma, Arizona, a warm, welcoming city known for its abundant sunshine, friendly community atmosphere, and relaxed desert lifestyle. Yuma offers easy access to outdoor activities year-round, including hiking, off-road adventures, river recreation along the Colorado River, and scenic desert vistas. The area's mild winters and clear skies make it especially appealing for those who enjoy an active lifestyle and time outdoors.Yuma combines the charm of a smaller city with convenient amenities, shopping, dining, and cultural experiences. Residents benefit from a lower cost of living compared to many larger metropolitan areas, while still having access to quality schools, community events, and family-friendly recreation. Its location near the California border and within driving distance of larger cities provides additional options for weekend getaways. In this role, you will work in a patient-focused rehabilitation environment that emphasizes collaboration, respect, and high-quality care. You will function under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to help patients regain mobility, improve function, and enhance their overall quality of life. A typical day may include assisting with therapeutic exercises, gait and balance training, transfer training, and functional activities tailored to each patient's goals. You will perform treatments for adult and primarily geriatric patients, many of whom are recovering from surgery, illness, injury, or managing chronic conditions. Responsibilities include implementing the plan of care established by the PT, monitoring patient response, contributing to progression of exercises within your scope, and ensuring safe use of assistive devices. You will also play a key role in patient and family education, helping individuals understand their home exercises and safety strategies. The setting is designed to support efficient and coordinated care, with an interdisciplinary team that may include physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, and case management. Patient volumes and caseloads are structured to prioritize quality, individualized care while maintaining reasonable productivity expectations. You can expect a steady flow of patients with varied diagnoses, offering opportunities to continually build your clinical skills.Documentation is completed using an electronic medical record system, with established workflows to support accurate and timely charting. You will be expected to maintain thorough, compliant documentation of visits, interventions, and patient progress while collaborating closely with the PT to communicate changes in patient status.Shifts are typically scheduled during daytime hours, often aligned with standard therapy department operations and weekday coverage, with potential for occasional weekend or holiday shifts depending on patient needs. The environment supports open communication, mentorship from experienced therapists, and opportunities to grow within the rehab team. This COTA position is well-suited for someone who values meaningful patient relationships, enjoys working as part of a supportive interdisciplinary team, and appreciates the balance of professional growth and a high quality of life offered by Yuma's unique desert community.
