About Ellingson Companies

Ellingson is a third-generation, family-owned company with more than five decades of history in innovation, operational excellence, and steady growth. Today, the company has over 450 team members working across multiple locations nationwide.

Ellingson operates through two distinct divisions:

Infrastructure Services

Trenchless pipeline rehabilitation, horizontal directional drilling, gas distribution, and specialized construction services for commercial, industrial, utility, municipal, and energy customers across the country.

Agricultural Solutions

The largest agricultural drainage contractor in the nation, providing drainage installation, engineering, and related products to customers throughout the U.S.

What sets Ellingson apart is how it balances disciplined, profitable growth with a people-first culture. Leadership isn't chasing growth for its own sake — the focus is on building long-term value through operational excellence, smart investment, innovation, and continuous improvement.

As Ellingson looks to grow the business and strengthen profitability, we're seeking a strategic Chief Financial Officer to serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and ownership team. This person will help shape financial strategy, evaluate growth opportunities, optimize capital allocation, and build out the finance organization for the years ahead.

The CFO leads all financial operations at Ellingson Companies — financial planning and analysis, accounting, treasury, risk management, and compliance. This person partners closely with the CEO and executive team to drive sustainable growth, strengthen financial discipline, and build long-term value.

What You'll Do

Financial Strategy (10%): Shape long-term financial strategy and advise the CEO and executive team on capital allocation.

FP&A (20%): Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning; deliver reporting and insights that drive better decisions.

Accounting & Compliance (25%): Oversee accounting operations, GAAP compliance, internal controls, audit readiness, and tax strategy.

Cash Flow, Capital & Risk (10%): Manage liquidity, banking relationships, financing, bonding capacity, and enterprise risk.

Operational Partnership (10%): Work with operations and fleet on cost discipline, pricing strategy, and margin management.

Team Leadership (25%): Build and develop the finance team, strengthen systems and processes, and support board governance.

What We're Looking For

15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including senior-level responsibility

Experience leading finance functions in construction, infrastructure, or related industries

Experienced in mergers and acquisition

Strong command of GAAP, financial reporting, CAPEX and internal controls

Track record of leading people and driving performance in a complex, growing organization

Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills

Nice to Have

Multi-entity or multi-state experience

Experience with ESOP structures, or family-owned businesses

Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration

Ellingson is committed to

creating an environment where team members feel respected, supported, and empowered — with a culture grounded in safety, integrity, accountability, innovation, and service. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds.
