Job description
CNA/Behavioral Health Safety AttendantBe a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a CNA/ Behavioral Health Safety Attendant in the Behavioral Health department. Here, you will prepare patients and assist with meals while providing direct patient care necessary to meet the personal, physical, and comfort needs of the patient. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.With the leadership of the Manager and the Clinical Supervisor, performs assigned supportive work in connection with the delivery of patient care, including functional tasks and skills. Utilizes interactive processes which will exceed the expectation of patients, physicians, families, or significant others, provides high-quality, cost-effective care and treatment. Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unit specific competencies as appropriate to the age of the patients served, as delineated in the Center's Scope of Care.Essential Job FunctionsMaintains direct visual access to patient at all times to provide ongoing and continuous observation and monitoring for patients assignedCommunicate any changes in patient's behavior or condition to nurse immediatelyMaintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all timesNotify nursing office immediately when observation case has been discontinuedRemain alert and aware of patient behavior at all timesAbility to effectively cope in stressful situationsPromotes the values and mission of Ingalls Memorial HospitalActs as a patient/family advocate with a focus on Behavioral HealthProvide comfort measures and assistance to patient and familyPerforms hourly rounds on patients and meets needs as appropriateDemonstrates the necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unit specific Scope of CareUnderstands Growth and Development and responds effectively to the unique needs of specific patient populationsWith the leadership of the staff nurse, follows plan of care by completing assigned tasks related to direct patient careAssists with admissions by setting up patient rooms, orienting patients to rooms, obtaining height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure (in both arms when applicable), changing clothing, labeling, and storing personal care itemsObserves and follows infection control policies and procedures in accordance with infection control policyWorks directly with patients to provide a safe, therapeutic environmentRequired QualificationsCertified Nursing Assistant (CNA)Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)High school diploma or equivalentCompleted Medical Terminology CoursePast or current experience in an acute care hospital settingCPI certification required within 60 days of hireDe-escalation training or experience preferredPosition DetailsJob Type/FTE: Full-Time (0.9 FTE)Shift: Nights, 12-hour shiftsWork Location: OnsiteUnit/Department: Behavioral HealthCBA Code: SEIU
