Job description
POSITION S UMMARY:
nThe Nurse Educator is responsible for facilitating the development of clinical excellence through active participation in orientation, training/role transition, internships/externships, career development, continuing education/continued competence and academic partnerships. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
nRESPONSIBILITIES:
n nUtilizes principles of education, adult learning and, for nurses, bases all activities on the professional growth pathway of the Novice to Expert continuum.
nResponsible for the effective implementation of staff clinical orientation, competency development, and quality nursing education.
nServes as a role model and resource to the nursing staff, provides consultation, and participates in the development of nursing care standards in the department.
nPromotes excellence in nursing as a subject matter expert of the Professional Practice Model.
nCreates, plans, implements and coordinates orientation for individuals new to the department.
nActivities to include coaching of new and experienced nursing staff, performance evaluation and growth plans completed in collaboration with management.
nActively participates, communicates and serves as a positive change agent and assists in recruitment of staff.
nFacilitates and evaluates activities related to career development and succession planning for staff.
nValidates the competency of existing staff and newly hired staff and coordinates in-services, continuing education and policy revisions.
n REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
nCurrent licensure to practice professional nursing in New York State required.
nMinimum 5 years nursing experience with 2 years in acute or critical care unit.
nCurrent BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association required.
nCurrent ACLS and PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association preferred.
nPrior experience as a Nurse Educator preferred.
nBSN is required and MSN is preferred.

nThe starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience

nSuccessfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services*
nnComplete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
nSuccessfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
nMeet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
nProvide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
n nFailure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

StaffCo is fully responsible for providing all payroll and Human Resources services, including the payment of wages, collecting and reporting payroll taxes and maintaining any and all employee benefits. SUNY Stony Brook Hospital is responsible for the operation of the hospital and provision of health care and is the co-employer as is necessary to conduct its responsibilities and for related licensure, regulatory or statutory requirements and obligations.
nGiven StaffCo's employment responsibilities, it is deemed the "employer" for employment and labor law purposes. Thus, the employees are private sector employees of StaffCo, not public sector employees of SUNY. The private sector nature of the StaffCo employees has been approved by NYS Civil Service and upheld in a decision by the US National Labor Relations Board.
