Good News Clinics Clinical Pharmacist Job Description

Department: Dispensary

Reports To: Dispensary Manager

Position Summary

The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients through medication management, clinical consultation, patient education, and collaboration with healthcare providers. This role supports quality patient outcomes by ensuring safe and effective medication therapy while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies. The Clinical Pharmacist will also be responsible for dispensing medications, tracking inventory and working with pharmacy technicians on Patient Assistance Programs as part of the Dispensary Department team.

The Clinical Pharmacist works closely with physicians, nurses, clinical managers, and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy and improve patient health outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Review, verify, and monitor medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, interactions, contraindications, and therapeutic effectiveness.

Provide clinical medication management and pharmaceutical care services to patients.

Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop, evaluate, and optimize patient treatment plans.

Counsel patients regarding medication use, side effects, adherence, and disease state management.

Conduct medication reconciliation and review patient medication histories.

Monitor patient outcomes and recommend medication adjustments when appropriate.

Participate in chronic disease management initiatives including diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and other disease states.

Assist providers with formulary management and medication access support.

Maintain accurate clinical documentation within the electronic health record (EHR).

Support quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management initiatives.

Provide drug information and education to healthcare staff and patients.

Participate in interdisciplinary care team meetings and case conferences.

Monitor for adverse drug events and medication errors and participate in corrective action processes.

Dispensing medications as required, tracking inventory and working with techs on PAPs.

Provide leadership, training and management of Pharmacy Students conducting onsite clinical rotations.

Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational pharmacy regulations and standards.

Collaborate with National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics and Georgia Charitable Care Network to develop and ensure adherence to policies and procedures aligning with best practices for dispensaries in FCC sector.

Qualifications

Education

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college or school of pharmacy required.

Licensure/Certification

Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license in the State of Georgia required.

Board Certification in ambulatory care (BCACP) highly preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Experience

Minimum of 2 years of clinical pharmacy experience preferred.

Experience in ambulatory care, primary care, community health, hospital, or nonprofit healthcare settings preferred.

Residency training preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong knowledge of pharmacotherapy, disease state management, and medication safety practices.

Excellent communication and patient counseling skills.

Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

Knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.

Proficiency with electronic health records and pharmacy management systems.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous quality improvement.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use computer systems for extended periods.

Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and providers.

Clinical nonprofit healthcare environment.

Exposure to routine healthcare and pharmacy settings.
