Job description
nnGENERAL SUMMARY
n
nnUnder direct departmental supervision, the Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for accurately reviewing medication orders and dispensing medications for the pediatric population in accordance with the standards of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group. Reports to department leadership.

nnESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
n
nnEnsures safe and effective drug therapy throughout the medication distribution process beginning with the review of physician's orders, accurate preparation of medications and administration of medication to the patient.
n
nnResponds to drug information inquiries from other healthcare professionals.
n
nnProvides oversight and supervision of duties performed by a pharmacy technician and pharmacy interns.
n
nnPerforms other duties as assigned.
n
nnLICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
n
nnMust possess a Virginia Pharmacy License or be eligible for licensure within four months of hire.
n
nnMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
n
nnMust be a graduate of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy.
n
nnMust have interpersonal skills to communicate and gain cooperation of hospital administration and staff, patients, their families and guests regarding drug therapy and other important aspects of pharmaceutical care.
n
nnMust have analytical skills to insure medication is prepared in accordance with professional standards and practices.
n
nnMust possess critical thinking skills to determine when to consult and advise physicians and patients as to the use of medications and their possible side effects.
n
nnMust possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
n
nnMust be in good standing and maintain continuing education requirements with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
n
nnWORKING CONDITIONS
n
nnNormal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
