Job description

General Duties

Assists the Clinical Pharmacy Manager in developing and monitoring clinical pharmacy programs. Works to implement and revise programs to assure continued success and consistent operation of clinical services, improving patient care. Participates in Core Measures planning groups, Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and related process improvement groups. Contributes to development and implementation of treatment protocols, clinical initiatives and guidelines, and updates departmental policies as needed. Participates in Medication Use Evaluation and Quality Assurance programs.

Drug Knowledge Utilization

Provides clinical consultation, drug information and clarification to practitioners, nursing staff, patients and family. Maintains the hospital formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, using therapeutic interchange protocols and suggesting cost‑effective and therapeutically equivalent alternatives. Is knowledgeable of Louisiana and federal pharmacy laws and DEA regulations.

Participation in Provision of Patient-focused Services

Actively participates in patient-focused clinical therapeutic services; provides in-service education for medical, hospital and pharmacy staff; suggests and implements new clinical practices to aid patient care and reduce financial burden; adheres to current formulary.

Acts as a Liaison to Other Healthcare Practitioners

Serves as liaison through interdisciplinary clinical rounds, provision of drug information and patient family education; performs and documents timely clinical interventions.

Collaborates with Pharmacy Staff

Collaborates with central pharmacy staff to resolve problems and questions; fosters teamwork and ensures delivery of high‑quality care; provides timely drug information.

Awareness of Regulatory Standards

Demonstrates awareness and understanding of record‑keeping, JCAHO standards, State Board of Pharmacy requirements and departmental policies and health‑system initiatives.

Supervises Students and Academic Associates

Participates and oversees academic/clinical associate activities, ensuring compliance with protocols and standards. Develops students and subordinates by recognizing abilities and weaknesses; exhibits fairness and impartiality; provides timely performance updates.

Experience Qualifications

Required: 1–2 years of experience in an inpatient hospital pharmacy/clinical pharmacy role.

Education Qualifications

Required: Pharm.D.

Preferred: completion of PGY‑1 Residency Program.

Licenses and Certifications

Currently licensed or registered to practice pharmacy in Louisiana; required.

Board certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS); preferred.

Recommended: Heart Saver or Basic Life Support.

Work Shift

Variable hours (United States of America).
