The CMA works under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse and supports the care team in maintaining a safe, effective, and person-centered medication management process.Essential Responsibilities as a CMAAdminister non-parenteral medications (oral, topical, inhalation, and mucosal) as delegated by a licensed nurseDocument medication administration accurately and promptlyObserve residents for adverse reactions or side effects and immediately report findings to a licensed nurseAdhere to the "Five Rights" of medication administrationAssist residents with ADLs when not administering medicationsMaintain medication security and proper storage proceduresParticipate in shift reports and interdisciplinary communicationComply with infection control, safety, and resident rights standardsSupport Resthaven's mission, values, and standards of excellenceLearn and know individualized care plans for residents and provide services to resident according to care planAide in total care of grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating, turning, repositioning, or other needsLift, move, and transport residentsMaintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of servicesClean and sanitize workrooms, equipment, and resident unitsEnsure compliance with established infection control proceduresObserve, chart, and report changes in resident condition or behavior to appropriate licensed nursing personnelAnswer resident's requests for service promptlyAssist with various tasks including vital signs, resident's weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, etc.Float between all units depending on the needAssumes all other position related responsibilities as assignedEducation, Training, ExperienceHigh school graduate or successful completion of GED. Must have worked at least 2,000 hours as a nurse aide in a nursing home or skilled nursing facility during the two years prior. Participates in learning and development opportunities. Attends all required in-service training and departmental meetings.Required Licenses, Registration, and/or CertificationsSuccessful completion of a Michigan state approved nurse assistant certification course or other education that meets state certification requirements. Must hold current nurse assistant certification in Michigan. Completion of a Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) - approved Medication Aide training program Successful completion of the state CMA competency exam Current listing on the Michigan Nurse Aide Registry as CMAPhysical RequirementsThis role is active and hands-on. You must be able to: Stand, walk, bend, lift, push, pull, and assist residents throughout your shift Lift up to 50 pounds Use mechanical lifts and clinical equipment safely Maintain visual acuity and physical stamina required for resident care
