CNA II Job DescriptionWorking in conjunction with the Nurse Director, Clinical Care Supervisor, RN and LPN, the CNA II performs a variety of skills/tasks for predictable residents/patients/clients with limited risk of complications and change. The CNA II may not be delegated CNA II skills for acutely ill patients. The CNA II works under the direction of a licensed nurse who must follow the principles of delegation. CNA II work is reflective of CCMH mission, vision, and values. The CNA II will integrate departmental goals for improvement across the care continuum. The CNA II practices within the framework of the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act, and the National Patient Safety Goals. Performs various direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Nurse. Assists patients in dressing, undressing, bathing, eating, walking, and other activities. Ensures patients' safety, well-being, and comfort. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs. Aids physicians and nursing staff members with patient care needs if needed. Maintains documents and records related to patient care. Follows all relevant safety guidelines and regulations. Communicates with patients, their families, and other care providers. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Requires State License.CNA II skills may include but are not limited to the following:Oxygen therapySterile TechniqueWound careOropharyngeal suctioningTracheostomy care for patients with well-established tracheostomyAssisting with peripheral IV fluidsOstomy careUrinary catheterGastrostomy and percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy (P.E.G.) feeding tubes in a stable siteElimination proceduresCapillary blood glucose testingResponding to mental health needsObserves patients and reports unusual conditions and/or reactions to RNProvides service excellence utilizing AIDETEnhances patient safety by attending shift huddle, and performance of hourly roundingAssists with admission, discharge and transfer of patientsMaintains a clean and safe environmentPerforms routine cleaning tasksDocuments according to policyAlerts staff when supplies are needed and replenishes stockDemonstrates efficient time management and prioritization skillsMay be required to work on other nursing unitsMust be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practicesComplies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and proceduresOther duties as assignedThis list is non-exhaustive.Job qualifications:Education, Training, Experience:Be eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of examinationHave a high school diploma or a GEDHave a current unencumbered Wyoming certified nursing assistant certificate (with on time renewal)Must have completed at least one thousand five hundred (1500) documented hours of work as a certified nursing assistantMust be a graduate from a state or board approved CNA II training and competency evaluation programThirty (30) hour course which shall have a minimum of:Fifteen (15) hours classroom instruction related to CNA II skillsFifteen (15) hours of supervised clinical practice related to CNA II skillsCertification: Wyoming Certification. Must register with the Wyoming Department of Health’s CNA Abuse Registry.Certifications required: See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.Experience: Previous CNA experience preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all certifications and licenses as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, CPI, CPR) to include Wyoming CNA certification and Wyoming Department of Health’s CNA abuse registry.Licensed professionals must strictly adhere to the ethical code of their respective discipline.Excellent interpersonal skills needed in dealing with nursing staff, physicians, patients, families, and other members of the health care team.Knowledge of basic patient care procedures.Able to think quickly, handle various projects simultaneously with attention to accuracy, prioritization, patient request, detail, memory, problem solving, reasoning, ability to memorize routine assignments, computer mnemonics, all with little or no supervision.Ability to explain procedures to patients and speak clearly to communicate with patients, families, physicians, and staff regarding patient’s condition, etc.Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions and under stressful conditions.Analytical and reasoning skills with a high level of mental concentration and memory.Ability to develop positive interactions and solve complex problems in a professional manner under stress with patients, patients’ families, physicians, and staff in order to effectively care for the patients.Computer Knowledge including the ability to enter material into electronic record.Ability to operate fax, computer, and copy machine to perform the duties of the position.The ability to demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages and apply developmental theories/concepts when planning and implementing care for the appropriate age of the patient.Ability to maintain the appropriate level of knowledge and skills.Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in the following age groups:Infant (Neonate to Age 1)Pediatric (Age 1-11)Adolescent (12-18)Adult (19-64)Geriatric (Age 65 and older)
