Job description
CNC MachinistThis role operates and sets up CNC equipment to produce precision components in a high-technology manufacturing environment. You will interpret complex blueprints and GD&T, program and edit CNC controls, perform accurate measurements and inspections, and troubleshoot machining issues to ensure parts meet stringent quality standards. The position also contributes to equipment maintenance, continuous improvement, and training of other machinists while working collaboratively across shifts to support production goals.Responsibilities include adhering to production schedules by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, material specifications, locations, and machining parameters, and accurately interpreting complex geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). You will operate CNC machines effectively by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches, and using G-code and/or conversational programming as needed. Apply basic math, geometry, and trigonometry when programming, setting up, and proving parts to determine required calculations and ensure accurate machining. Set up CNC machines with minimal to no assistance by programming and editing controls, installing and adjusting tools, attachments, collets, bushings, and stops, and correctly indicating parts. Safely load raw materials by lifting stock into position and verify machine settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces while adhering to international standards. Monitor machining operations such as drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, and facing to ensure parts meet specifications, taking precise measurements to identify malfunctions. Troubleshoot machining issues by identifying root causes, adjusting and editing existing programs, and replacing worn tools to maintain quality and productivity. Follow and adhere to all quality assurance procedures and processes consistently to ensure parts and assemblies meet internal and external requirements. Perform preventive maintenance on CNC machines by following manufacturer instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions appropriately, and reporting issues for timely repair. Train and mentor other machinists on production processes, programming techniques, troubleshooting methods, and maintenance procedures to promote consistency and accuracy in part production. Maintain continuity between work shifts by documenting and communicating actions taken, irregularities, and ongoing needs, and by completing production and quality logs accurately. Support organizational goals by taking ownership of new and different tasks and actively seeking opportunities for continuous improvement in processes and performance. Promote positive employee and customer relations by supporting a work environment of tolerance, acceptance, and civility, and by responding to inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner. Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned to support production and organizational objectives.Essential skills include a high school diploma or GED, at least 3 years of CNC machining and set-up experience, proficiency operating CNC lathes and mills, experience with CNC machine setup, including tooling, tool changes, and machine setup for new jobs, strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings, solid understanding and practical application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), hands-on experience with G-code and M-code programming and editing, experience using CNC controls such as Fanuc and similar control systems, ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment, proficiency in basic math, geometry, and trigonometry for machining calculations, experience in inspection of machined parts to verify conformance to specifications, demonstrated ability to troubleshoot machining issues and adjust programs or tooling to correct problems, ability to maintain accurate production and quality documentation, capability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and up to 25 pounds frequently, ability to stand for long periods, bend, reach, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel small components and tools, ability to communicate effectively in English by telephone, in person, and in writing, ability to use a personal computer for documentation, basic data entry, and related tasks, specific vision abilities including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Additional skills and qualifications include experience with P-code programming, experience operating or setting up twin turret lathes, familiarity with Okuma or similar CNC machine platforms, background working in a machine shop environment with CNC lathe and mill operations, experience working with graphite or similar materials in a machining environment, comfort working with inspection tools and following structured quality assurance processes, experience training or mentoring other machinists on programming, setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance, exposure to ISO-based quality systems and structured documentation practices, interest in continuous learning through training, continuing education, and cross-functional collaboration.You join a growing global manufacturer that invests in modern facilities, advanced equipment, and engineered solutions that help customers improve performance, quality, and efficiency. Overtime is available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and is voluntary for new hires, typically filled by more senior employees. You work in a manufacturing environment with both natural and artificial light, exposure to ambient and controlled temperatures, light to moderate airborne graphite dust, and moderate background noise. The facility is a brand-new, modern building equipped with state-of-the-art air filtration systems designed to extract particles and dust from the air, supporting a cleaner and more comfortable workspace. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required and provided in accordance with safety policies. The role is physically active and requires standing for long periods, bending, reaching, walking, and using hands and fingers to handle or feel components, along with the ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently. You will use a personal computer for documentation and communication and must communicate effectively in English. The company provides uniforms for use in the facility, contributing to a consistent and professional appearance while working with graphite and other materials.This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Aurora, OH. The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
