Job description

Duties Include:

nConducts field investigations and property inspections to uncover violations of nuisance, zoning, junk and debris, abandoned/inoperative vehicles, housing and related ordinances.

nPerforms investigations for possible violations; photographs evidence; contacts responsible persons, landlords or tenants and performs follow-up investigations to ensure that remedial action has been taken; develops and maintains accurate files.

nPresents a variety of information and statistics in the form of written, graphic, or oral reports for use by elected and appointed officials, special committees, or community organizations involved in code enforcement matters.

nResponds to public inquiries and public nuisance abatement complaints and answers questions related to City code enforcement activities by researching, interpreting and explaining policies and regulations; analyzes, recommends and communicates appropriate solutions to problems; addresses complaints and schedules site visits

nDeals effectively, courteously and productively with angry and upset residents.

nMaintains integrity of work by taking responsibility and accountability for completion of work, customer interactions, and by maintaining punctuality and attendance at work.

nCode enforcement officers need to have a broad knowledge of codes and inspection procedures and be able to exercise independent judgment. They also need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to deal with people in an emotional or angry state

nMust have a valid drivers license and car.

nCustomer service

nAnswer phones

nInput and retrieve a variety of information using a computer terminal

nMaintain files and records related to citations and violations

nPrepare a variety of written reports, memoranda and correspondence

nPerform other related duties as assigned

nBackground in code enforcement and or construction

nGood work ethics

nDetailed oriented

nIssue building permits

nConstruction Inspections

nCoordinate with other municipal departments

nReview building permit applications and plans

nEnsure application packages are complete

nProvide detailed daily log of duties performed for accounting department

nBasic computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft 365 a plus
