nThe purpose of this position is to inspect residential and commercial property for compliance with property maintenance codes, zoning codes and city ordinances.
nEssential Duties and Responsibilities
nThe following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
nnnPerform inspections on new structures and existing structures for property maintenance codes, and city ordinance.
n
nnInform and advise the general public, contractors, property owners, developers and others regarding inspection activities, rental requirements, violation correction procedures, building standards, codes and zoning matters.
n
nnVerify and document code violations.
n
nnNotify builders, contractors, homeowners, tenants and business owners of code violations.
n
nnPerform follow-up inspections for corrected violations.
n
nnReceives and responds to code violation complaints.
n
nnMaintains records of inspection activity.
n
nnAct as inspection and code enforcement liaison to other agencies.
n
nnCoordinate inspection functions with other City Departments and agencies.
n
nnIssue citations, manage court cases, and provide testimony to the Municipal Court.
n
nnEfficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and other typical office software.
n
n nMinim um Training and Experience Required
nnnVocational or technical training in building codes, zoning codes, property maintenance enforcement, building inspections, building trades or related area.
n
nnThree years general building construction or related experience.
n
nnProperty Maintenance certification required within 6 months of hire date
n
nnA valid driver's license required.
n
nnAny combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
n
nnICC Residential Building Inspector certification preferred.
n
n nPhysical Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
nnAbility to work under moderately safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to construction site environmental factors such as temperature variations and extremes, toxic agents, noise, machinery, wetness, electrical currents, irate individuals and/or dust, may cause some discomfort and where there is a risk of injury.
