Collections Paralegal

Job description

The Collections Paralegal will assist attorneys and collections personnel by providing clerical and research support services including document preparation and review; research; investigations; fact checking; and legal group litigation reporting. This is a fully remote position.

Job Responsibilities

Serves as BHDIC’s primary point of contact for third-party collections agencies, outside counsel and in-house attorneys to provide updates, gather documentation, and manage litigation from initial complaint through post-judgment litigation.

Drafts and edits legal documents including pleadings, subpoena responses, affidavits, and releases.

Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, and other sources to assist with legal requests.

Travel as necessary to serve as a witness or legal representative for the company in court proceedings and mediation sessions related to collections matters.

Assists attorneys with correspondence to third-party vendors and collections law firms.

Develops and maintains reporting on litigated matters.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, and related software.

Education and Experience:

Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field required; Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred.

Paralegal certificate required.

Previous insurance industry related experience preferred.

Collections litigation experience required.

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided. The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000 per year. Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
