Commercial Credit UnderwriterYou don’t just crunch the numbers. YOU uncover the story behind the numbers and help turn strong businesses into successful investments! Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC) is a non-profit organization and one of the largest Hispanic Community Development Corporations in the United States. The organization began with a group of student and community activists in 1967, and was incorporated and received non-profit status in 1969. CPLC is committed to empowering individuals through health and human services, housing, education, and economic development.HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?You will independently analyze, underwrite, and prepare credit memorandums for small business and commercial loan requests, ranging from microloans to complex commercial transactions. You will evaluate business and personal tax returns, financial statements, cash flow, collateral, guarantor strength, and global debt service capacity to determine repayment ability and overall credit risk. You will develop sound loan structures and recommendations, identify operational, industry, collateral, and repayment risks, and prepare comprehensive written credit presentations for review by the Senior Credit Officer and Loan Committee. In addition to underwriting new loan requests, you will perform ongoing portfolio monitoring and annual reviews of existing commercial loans, including borrower performance and covenant compliance. You will also lead weekly pipeline meetings with Business Development Officers and the credit analyst team, review and mentor junior credit analysts, and collaborate with internal teams to structure financeable transactions and maintain accurate underwriting documentation. You will ensure compliance with internal credit policies, SBA guidelines, and lending procedures while providing excellent service to current and prospective borrowers.WHO YOU ARE?You are an experienced commercial lending professional who knows that underwriting is about more than simply spreading financials. You can look at a business’s financial history, understand its cash flow and trends, identify potential risks, and make a clear recommendation based on the full credit picture. You are analytical, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable making independent decisions in a fast-paced environment. You have strong written and verbal communication skills and can confidently present your credit recommendations to senior leadership and Loan Committee. You understand the importance of confidentiality, sound judgment, and accuracy when working with customer and credit information.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIESEducation/Background:Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Minimum 7 years of experience in commercial lending, small business lending, commercial underwriting, or CDFI lending. Strong experience analyzing business tax returns, personal tax returns, business financial statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Experience preparing comprehensive commercial credit memorandums required. Experience with SBA lending programs, including SBA 7(a), preferred. Experience underwriting commercial real estate and business-purpose loans preferred.
