Job description
Composite Technician I-VThe mission of every Robertson employee is to execute their responsibilities with the #1 goal of saving and protecting the lives of service members across the globe. Primary duties include processing lay-up techniques to include pre-preg or wet lay-up, cutting, bagging, basic repair, and or trimming operations in the composite repair of aerospace, and related fiberglass products as well as sanding, potting of inserts, filling, and laminating repairs.Duties & Responsibilities of the Composite Technician I-V:Reads and understands drawings, work orders, work instructions, and manufacturing orders.Weighs out resins and adhesives in secondary containers to the correct ratios with material identification and lot number traceability.Marks and cuts woven material, tape materials and core materials following templates, guides or specific dimensions.Smooths successive layers to build required thickness free from wrinkles, air pockets or voids.Demonstrates proper vacuum bagging and leak check methods.Routes, drills, trims and sands to drawing dimensions and tolerances.Demonstrates proper filling and fairing techniques using contour fillers with both hand and power sanders.Records operational steps completed including lot numbers and expiration dates for material traceability.Interacts with Quality and Supply Chain as required.Adherence to Export Control and Technology Control Plan (TCP) as applicable to job functionAdherence to Compliance Plan and Employee Policy ManualAbility to accomplish duties and responsibilities with minimal or intermittent supervision.Bonds prep composite and metallic surfaces for subsequent bonding.Positions machining/route fixtures to blueprint tolerances and machine using power tools.Bonds components using jigs and fixtures.Completes final assembly of finished components using adhesives, inserts and fasteners.Performs preventive maintenance on tooling and equipment.Conducts conductivity verification and recording.Operates and monitors oven controllers.Assists with training and on-the-job learning initiatives for lesser experienced Composite TechniciansCompletes the fabrication of composite models and tooling for production.Performs preventative maintenance and logs recording of equipment.Assists with the scheduling of workflow to meet product requirements.Inventories parts required to fabricate containers.Works with Engineering on manufacturing order and Blueprint improvementsCompletes in process inspection and verifications in manufacturing orders and Work Orders.Ensures product meets blueprint and process specification tolerances.Interacts with Engineering as required.Reviews change/ deficiency requests for drawing, work orders, work instructions, and manufacturing orders.Completes in process inspection and verifications in manufacturing and work orders.Please note this job description is not designed to cover nor contain a static listing of activities, duties or responsibilities.Additional duties may be assigned.Qualifications for the Composite Technician I-VTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education and Experience for the Composite Technician I-VHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent; and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a manufacturing role combined with the demonstrated ability to perform level I, II and III tasks per the training matrix; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.Professional Qualifications for the Composite Technician I-VAbility to work with basic shop tools and equipment used in composite lay-up and assemblyMust be familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures in the aircraft composite fieldForklift certification or ability to become forklift certifiedDemonstrate an understanding of how manufacturing orders, blueprints, and process specifications ensure the quality of the product and provide suggestions on improvementsAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleaguesBasic computer knowledge to include software for composite lay-ups and assemblyMathematical understanding consistent with the educational requirementsAbility to read, write and communicate clearly and effectively in EnglishAbility to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formAbility to use various tools to identify and solve problemsStrong customer service and company culture/ reputation orientationProficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint; Project and Access as required)Preferred:Advanced 2-year vocational, technical and/or military technical schooling certifications in manufacturing or related fields.Completion of an Advanced Composite Repair training class.Personal Competencies of the Composite Technician I-VDemonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and work in a fast paced, multi-task environmentProtect organization's value by keeping information confidentialAbility to participate successfully in a team environment; demonstrate willingness to collaborate with others to achieve common objectivesAbility to apply common sense towards the execution of responsibilitiesPhysical Demands of the Composite Technician I-VWhile performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, stand and climb. The incumbent is occasionally required to sit, bend, squat, kneel or crawl and lift or carry a maximum of 75 pounds; as well as push or pull a maximum of 300 pounds. This position involves occasionally working in a confined space. The incumbent will regularly use hand tools including but not limited to scissors, hand sanders, wrenches, sockets, drills, screwdrivers, spray guns, lay up squeegees, brushers, rollers, rulers, and calipers. The incumbent will occasionally use power tools including but not limited to computers, panel saws, table saws, shapers, sanders, motorized trim fixtures and occasionally operate forklifts.Work Environment for the Composite Technician I-VWhile performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly exposed to mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to dirty working conditions, heat or cold ranging between 35 and 100 degree ambient conditions, chemical vapors or fumes, dust, shavings and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The incumbent is required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including Nitrile or Chloroprene gloves, negative or positive pressure respirator, dust mask, safety glasses, protective clothing, goggles, hearing protection, and work or anti-vibration gloves.Safety/Security/EnvironmentalSupports the company's FOD (Foreign Object Damage) prevention programMaintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards.Comply with all Safety policies as outlined by the company standards and local, state and federal laws.In accordance with Robertson Fuel Systems' Arizona Drug and Alcohol Policy, this position is designated as a safety-sensitive position.OtherAs provided by the Americans with Disabilities Act, the company is committed to discussing and providing reasonable accommodations to its employees to help them fulfill the essential functions of their jobs.
