ConstableThe Constable is a sworn peace officer responsible for the service and execution of civil legal documents on behalf of the Magistrate Court. This role ensures that individuals are formally notified of court actions and that civil orders are carried out in accordance with State law and court directives. Please note: Constable authority is strictly limited to civil matters. HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $15.39 - $20.15 OPEN UNTIL FILLED – APPLICATION REVIEW BEGINS IMMEDIATELYDuties and ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities :Process Service: Serve civil process documents, including summonses, subpoenas, eviction notices, writs, and court ordersCourt Orders: Assist in the execution of court-ordered evictions, property seizures, and repossessionsPublic Interaction: Provide professional information and assistance to the public, attorneys, and law enforcement personnel regarding court procedures and processesRecord Keeping: Maintain accurate, timely records of service attempts, completed services, and actions taken during the execution of court ordersCourt Testimony: Testify in court as needed regarding service of process or the execution of court ordersProfessional Standards: Safeguard confidential information, adapt to changing field conditions, meet strict deadlines, and uphold County and Department standards for delivering excellent customer serviceMinimum QualificationsQualifications & Requirements:Education: High School Diploma or GED required; undergraduate degree preferredExperience: Minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in forward facing customer service and/or public service fieldsLicensure: Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License and meet the requirements of the County's motor vehicle policySworn Status: Must meet all requirements necessary to hold a sworn Constable appointment and comply with applicable State standardsSkills: Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, excellent time-management skills, and the flexibility to adapt to changing schedulesBenefitsCharleston County offers competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package to its employees, including but not limited to:Health, Dental, Vision and Life InsuranceOptional Life and Disability InsuranceOptional Medical and Dependent Care Spending AccountsAnnual and Sick LeaveFourteen (14) recognized HolidaysSouth Carolina Retirement System (SCRS) State Retirement PlanPolice Officers Retirement System (PORS - as applicable)Optional Deferred Compensation ProgramLongevity and Merit Pay IncreasesLeadership, Professional and Skill Development TrainingEmployee Assistance ProgramEmployee Well-being Program
