Construction Accountant
Fremont, CA (onsite)
$40-45/hr

Key Responsibilities
Research, reconcile, and resolve historical and outdated billing discrepancies.
Manage customer invoicing, progress billings, AIA billings, and schedule of values.
Review and clean up aged accounts receivable balances and collection issues.
Develop and execute collection strategies to improve cash flow and reduce outstanding receivables.
Prepare, track, and monitor preliminary notices (pre-liens), lien waivers, conditional and unconditional releases, and mechanic's liens.
Coordinate lien release documentation with subcontractors, vendors, project managers, and customers.
Research unpaid invoices and resolve billing disputes.
Maintain accurate project-related accounting records and job cost information.
Reconcile project balances and assist with project closeouts.
Monitor subcontractor compliance documentation, insurance certificates, and payment requirements.
Prepare AR aging reports and provide recommendations to management regarding collection efforts.
Assist with month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Partner with project management and operations teams to ensure billing accuracy and timely collections.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
5+ years of construction accounting experience.
Extensive knowledge of construction billing, accounts receivable, collections, and project accounting.
Experience handling preliminary notices, mechanic's liens, lien waivers, stop notices, and lien releases.
Understanding of job costing, contract compliance, change orders, and project closeouts.
Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills with the ability to clean up legacy accounting issues.
Proficiency with construction accounting software such as Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300/Timberline, Foundation, Procore, CMiC, or similar platforms.
Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with project managers and customers.
