Construction Manager – Refinery, Petrochemical & Industrial Projects
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead field execution for large-scale refinery, petrochemical, LNG, and heavy industrial capital projects in the Corpus Christi area. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all construction activities from site mobilization through mechanical completion, commissioning support, and final project turnover.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience managing complex industrial projects within active operating facilities and possesses a strong understanding of piping systems, process equipment installation, structural steel erection, electrical and instrumentation (E&I) construction, and contractor management.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Execution & Leadership
Lead field construction activities for major refinery, petrochemical, LNG, chemical processing, and energy infrastructure projects.
Provide oversight of construction safety, quality, productivity, schedule performance, and overall execution.
Manage and coordinate multiple contractors and subcontractors across various scopes of work.
Drive successful project delivery from construction kickoff through mechanical completion and turnover.
Multi-Discipline Coordination
Coordinate construction activities across piping, mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, instrumentation, and process disciplines.
Work closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, commissioning, and project controls teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Identify and resolve field issues, constructability challenges, and execution risks.
Facilitate communication between stakeholders to maintain alignment on project objectives and milestones.
Contractor & Project Management
Monitor contractor performance, staffing, productivity, schedules, and budget adherence.
Review construction progress, forecasts, change orders, and resource requirements.
Support work packaging, construction planning, and schedule development activities.
Ensure contractors execute work safely and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.
Safety, Compliance & Operational Excellence
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site-specific safety programs, permit-to-work systems, and environmental regulations.
Oversee work performed in active operating facilities while minimizing operational disruptions.
Participate in shutdowns, turnarounds, brownfield modifications, and greenfield expansion projects.
Ensure compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and industry best practices.
Startup & Commissioning Support
Support mechanical completion, commissioning, startup, and turnover activities.
Assist with punch list management, system walkdowns, and final project closeout.
Partner with operations and commissioning teams to ensure successful transition from construction to production.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of construction management experience supporting refinery, petrochemical, LNG, chemical processing, oil & gas, or other heavy industrial facilities.
Proven experience managing large-scale industrial construction projects, with $100M+ project experience strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of piping systems, process equipment installation, structural steel erection, and electrical/instrumentation construction.
Experience overseeing contractors within active operating facilities and complex process environments.
Demonstrated success leading multi-discipline construction teams on large capital projects.
Strong knowledge of construction planning, scheduling, work packaging, and project controls.
Experience utilizing Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Navisworks, or similar construction management software.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience supporting owner/operators such as Marathon, Valero, Phillips 66, ExxonMobil, Chevron, CITGO, Cheniere, Flint Hills Resources, or other major industrial organizations.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
OSHA 30 certification.
Experience supporting commissioning, startup, and plant turnover activities.
Experience with refinery turnarounds, outages, shutdowns, or major capital expansion programs.
